Absolutely amazing! #1 in its class.

Great character design and plot. For those who love futuristic anime with a hint of romance, laughs and a few tears Outlaw Star is the anime to look for. The soundtrack is phenomenal and Akino Arai's sweet voice and beautiful art drawn for the credits is really spectacular. It makes you want to stay for the credits!

    Sheer Perfection

To all the folks out there who like action, romance, comedy, and the ideal anime to watch...look no further than Outlaw Star. The entire series, start to finish, is absolute perfection. The series may have a few down points here and there, but they are few and far between...and even when they do happen, it's right after a major high point. It balances out the series so well. The storyline is a work of art, and not a single anime I have seen/own tops this one. I highly recommend this to anyone who wants an anime to break into the genre, or is looking for something to just watch any time. It's perfect for any time of the day, with anybody, and for anyone.

    One Great Anime

This is an excellent box set with special cards with information in the cases. The anime is great and is worth the money. I was dissapointed though because three of the discs fell out of place and got scratched. The box was also damaged.

    Wild West, Y2K Style

In a nutshell, hilarious. Though it has its serious moments, Outlaw Star is funfilled and fast paced with excellent artwork and character design, not to mention the complementary hot springs episode! I thought it was funny when it aired on Cartoon Network, but it's so much funnier unedited. A must see for anyone who loves futuristic comic animes.

    Excellent overall

First of all, let me address the quality of the show. Outlaw Star is a scrumdidlyumtious mixture of sci-fi space travel, exciting dog fights, innovative technology, crisp animation, truly hilarious comedy, unique storyline, intriguing characters, and even more intriguing character relations. I enjoy anime/manga as well as traditional, american cartoons/comics; I've seen quite a few rehashed plots, characters, and technologies. In Outlaw Star the protagonist, Gene, isn't a perfect hero like Goku (for those of you familar with DBZ). He is a regular, somewhat sleazy guy, who would much rather do the right thing, but will do the wrong thing if it suites him. In other words he seems real, with all of humanity's flaw intact. This refreshing realism spreads throughout the entire show, but doesn't limit it or make it boring. The ships and weapons are a pleasant blend of new and old. Everything comes together here. It's fantastic most of the time; however, I was let down during some episodes. I won't spoil any surprises, but the final episode didn't seem to follow the same path as the rest of the show. It's a little confusing and might've been better as a two part episode. Given the fact that the rest of Outlaw Star was outstanding, I can overlook it. The 6-DVD collection, for which this review was written, is a great value. Obviously the picture quality is great and the sounds is equally awesome. It's a handsome boxed set and each two-disc DVD has a nice, little info card inside and extras (additional photos, cover art, trailers for other anime, etc.). I especially like the info card, as it explains certain technologies like casters and caster shells; it's a nice touch to an already great collection.
