Overview

This screwball comedy casts real-life couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn in a film that finds the latter returning to her roots in a role reminiscent of Private Benjamin 1980. Hawn stars as Joanna Stayton, a snooty heiress who summons carpenter Dean Proffitt Russell to her lavish yacht, where she wants an expanded closet constructed that will house her valuable wardrobe. When Dean fails to build the closet out of cedar, Joanna haughtily dismisses him without payment. Later, Joanna falls overboard and is struck by another boat, causing amnesia. Seeing her story on the news, Dean constructs an elaborate scheme to pretend that Joanna is his wife, Annie. Soon, the former rich snob is cleaning Dean's home and babysitting his four rambunctious boys. Although at first she's a disaster, "Annie" grows into her role and begins to love being a mom and middle-class wife. When her real husband, Grant Edward Herrmann, comes looking for her, however, her memory is jogged, and she must decide between a life of privileged ease and a life of happy housework. Overboard was the feature-film debut of writer Leslie Dixon, the granddaughter of famed photographer Dorothea Lange.

One of my all time favorite movies

Man this was a great movie from when my family and i would always watch it whenever its on. We remember most the scenes and our favorites would have to be when she's sleeping on the couch with the buckets filled with water and that the dogs come rushing in ruining her sleep including when she's cleaning the house when the kids and husband are gone, hilarious. This is the story about a spoiled woman who gets amnesia and is told that she's married to a carpenter and heads home with him and meets &amp quot her&amp quot crazy kids. I must say that Kurt and Goldie do make a nice couple and was happy that they actually got married in real life and are still married to this day. Another thing I noticed is that there is really good character development in this where she goes from a angry rich brat to a calm and sweet woman and starts to care for the carpenter and his kids. I thought that was sweet that she changed her ways and the ending was just terrific. You don't see much character development in movies nowadays or try but fail. This is a rare movie and I gladly recommend it. Now when it comes on again on TV you bet that my family and i will watch it. Its a movie that you never get tired of whenever its on.

A Cute and Charming Romantic Comedy That Is Very Underrated!

Overboard is a very underrated romantic comedy! It is cute and charming and very funny! The acting by Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell is very good and the child actors who play Kurt Russell's sons are good too!

You can't see this movie too many times!

Although written to be a comedy, the photography, the writing, the sets, and the acting make this movie a classic. It is one of the most romantic movies I've ever seen. It has universal appeal. It's for those who enjoy action or comedy or romance, or family life. And it's for kis from 4 to 94. It's a remakably enjoyable film.

    Hilarious!

Overboard takes me back to when I was a child in 87'. It's an amazing Romantic Comedy that's nonstop laughs from beginning to end. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn have as much chemistry on screen as they do off. This is probably Goldie Hawn's best work and definitely the best work she did in the 80's. Overboard may not have been a huge box office hit, but it is definitely worth buying and watching at least once. Some things are dated since it's been sixteen years since this movie was released. The story puts a different spin on '' poor guy falls for rich woman '' plot. Surprisingly the ending was one of the most romantic and touching finales ever seen in a comedy. I have no complaints about this movie. This is a film you can watch over and over with family and friends! Overboard is one of only a few films with loads of laughs and a lot of heart!
