Prepared to coincide with the American Film Institute's celebration of his career with a Life Achievement Award, Pacino - An Actor's Vision is a uniquely personal box set that's sure to please fans of the man born Alfredo James Pacino in April 1940, in New York City. Actors and prospective actors, too, will enjoy Babbleonia, a 52-minute interview with Pacino conducted by New York University film professor Richard Brown. Produced exclusively for this release, it offers an overview of the actor's career, from his early Off-Broadway roots and studies at Lee Stasberg's Actor Studio to his later big-screen triumphs. Keeping with the Vision theme, the box also offers Looking for Richard, Pacino's self-directed 1996 documentary exploring his labors in bringing William Shakespeare's Richard III to the New York stage with American performers (see synopsis below). The set also debuts to DVD two non-documentaries: Rarely seen, The Local Stigmatic (1990) is a film of Heathcote Williams's short one-act play, featuring Pacino and CSI regular Paul Guilfoyle as a pair of working-class English pub thugs who wind up pummeling an unfortunate actor who strolls in of the street. Chinese Coffee (2000) also adapts a stage play to film, this time with Pacino directing as well as taking a lead role (see synopsis below). Here, he works opposite Jerry Orbach, portraying a doorman and would-be writer trying to get an opinion on his latest manuscript from an old Greenwich Village friend (Orbach). Compiling rarely seen material at a reasonable price, Pacino - An Actor's Vision earns its title, offering welcome insight into the methods and motivations of an acting legend.
