Barnes & Noble - Steve Futterman
Texas is a fruitful breeding ground for singer-songwriters, and Austin-based Patty Griffin can stand tall alongside such acclaimed Lone Star mainstays as Lyle Lovett and Lucinda Williams. Her first full-length DVD captures Griffin in an intimate New York performance space -- accompanied by her touring band with the additional support of a compact string section as well as guest keyboardist Ian McLagan-- bringing both old favorites and new songs vividly to life. Children Running Through, Griffin’s most recent CD, was released one week after this concert. Griffin’s songs have been covered by such artists as the Dixie Chicks, Emmylou Harris, and Bette Midler, but no one owns a Griffin tune like the composer herself. This compelling performance offers further proof that while her cult following is thoroughly deserved, wider recognition is surely right around the corner.

    Outstanding

I attended Patty Griffin's concert in Santa Fe a couple of years ago and loved her presence and style, her music and songs, and her guitarist who played only for her. So now I've bought all her albums. Her songs are among those I most love listening to. This DVD gives us the magic of her music in a live performance. So where is that guitarist?
