Then police find the acting administrative officer of the power plant slain. Local officials chalk up the incident to a serial killer, who has already left behind a trail of dead bodies. But Dalgliesh hasn't yet drawn his own conclusions. Devices and Desires originally aired on the BBC in 1991.

Good read and a good film

P D James is one of my favorite authors. It was PBS showing "Death of An Expert Witness" that introduced me to her. Ever since then, I have loved reading and listening to her books so I always look forward to seeing the movies created from the books. And I must say that most of them have been excellent, including "Devices and Desires". Though they did change a few things, for me, it did not take away from the story. "Unnatural Causes" was the only movie that wasn't as good as the others because the romantic interest didn't work very well. I was sad when they stopped using Roy Marsden as Adam. He was teerrific!

    I Also Recommend:

Roy Marsden is wonderful in this!

Devices and Desires is one of my favorites of the movies made from P.D.James' books. Roy Marsden is the perfect Adam Dalgliesh! I believe this movie was put together from a TV show because it is divided into segments with credits shown between the segments. This does not disturb the flow of the movie, but viewers should know not to turn off the TV when the credits come on. The story line is very interesting, and the scenery is beautiful. Overall, it's a very entertaining movie. It won't disappoint P.D. James fans.
