Onetime Genesis frontman turned iconoclastic solo artist Peter Gabriel tours infrequently, but never with anything less than a spectacular stage show, and this acclaimed recording from his 1993 "Secret World Live" tour is ample proof. On stage -- make that two stages -- in Modena, Italy, Gabriel leads his ensemble through tracks primarily culled from his then-recent Us album with a mix of his earlier hits. For those who know the albums, the live arrangements and performances are fresh and full of subtle surprises, and Gabriel's backing band couldn't be better. "Mr. Clean" Tony Levin on bass and stick, drummer Manu Katche, guitarist David Rhodes, and the violinist Shankar all seem, like Gabriel, to be having a blast. And Paula Cole's vocal contributions bring welcome contrast to Gabriel's singular reedy warble. Favorites such as as "Solsbury Hill," "Sledgehammer," and "In Your Eyes" have never sounded better; and the visuals -- captured on video by director François Girard (The Red Violin) -- truly dazzle on DVD. Bonus features include interviews with Gabriel, behind-the-scenes footage, and the film "The Making of Peter Gabriel's Secret World Live." Tracks are as follows:
  • Come Talk To Me
  • Steam
  • Across The River
  • Slow Marimbas
  • Shaking The Tree

This DVD is a must have for all PG fans- even if you already own the VHS, don't miss this. Sound and picture are astounding, and the extra features are some of the most useful in any DVD. The behind the scenes footage is enlightening, and the taste of the current 'Growing Up' tour is a real treat! Guaranteed to please!

I first saw this concert on cable when I was stuck in a hotel one night in Le Mars, IA. It was captivating. I didn't find a VHS copy until several years after, and I have pretty well worn that out since then. As soon as I located a DVD copy, I scooped it up, post haste! The first time my wife and I saw the DVD version was on our new 43' TV. She asked me several times, 'Are you sure this is the same show?' The look and sound of the DVD are so much better than the earlier VHS release! I am invariably in awe with admiration for the musicianship of Gabriel's bandmates, and their ability to not only make music, but to PERFORM. Even the most difficult passages are made to sound and look easy, and everyone is having a great time putting on the show; their infectious enthusiasm is reflected in the audience's delight. This is the benchmark by which I have come to judge concert recordings. The great video, the wonderful sound, and the fantastic preformance make this an unbeatable addition to my collection. 'A good time was had by all.'

This concert was originally performed in 1993, when I was 8 years old. My mother is a huge Peter Gabriel fan, and quickly located a copy of this concert on VHS. As a child, I was amazed by the stage set up and the effects of the concert, as well as the music.
15 years later, we own this on DVD, and it gets watched regularly in our house. We always put it on as background music/visuals during our parties, but everyone ends up sitting down and watching it. Its incredibly engaging.
I have been fortunate to see Peter Gabriel live, and nothing will compare to that, but this DVD is definitly the next best thing!

The entire perfomance is breathtaking. The drummer-Manu Katche is amazing !!! Paula Cole is stunning and sexy as well as talented and is a great compliment to the already gifted Peter Gabriel himself. The show is as entertaining and well produced as any Broadway show.
