Piglet's Big Movie

( 3 )

Overview

Young DVD viewers will surely be looking for Piglet's Big Movie on the movie shelves. The 1.85:1 anamorphic transfer is full of lively, familiar colors. The animation is reproduced delightfully, and there aren't any distracting elements, making it an equal representation of the theatrical print. The 5.1 English Dolby Digital track is also nicely done. While it's not too surprising that there's really no use of the surrounds, the overall sound elements, from dialogue to effects, are nonetheless strong and clear ...

While it's not too surprising that there's really no use of the surrounds, the overall sound elements, from dialogue to effects, are nonetheless strong and clear throughout. The supplements offered are quite clearly made for the younger set. In addition to DVD-ROM coloring pages, three separate sections are included: a game called "Piglet's Book of Memories," a collection of stories entitled "The World According to Piglet," and a singalong so kids can join in on the many songs from Carly Simon. Finally, as is the case with most Disney titles, there are a number of theatrical and home video "sneak peeks," this time consisting of Brother Bear, The Lion King Special Edition, and the Sleeping Beauty Special Edition, among others. While not in the same "league" as The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, this is still an entertaining film and a nice enough disc to keep the children entertained.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Every pig has his day, and, finally, after toiling for nearly four decades in Winnie-the-Pooh's and Tigger's shadows, Piglet gets top billing. Little Piglet (voiced, as ever, by John Fiedler) feels left out of the enchanted Hundred Acre Wood gang's big plans to harvest honey. When Piglet goes missing during a storm, they use Piglet's "book of memories" to try and locate their precious friend. Along the way, they fondly recall stories -- meeting Kanga and Roo, an expedition to the North Pole, building a house for Eeyore -- that illustrate Piglet's steadfast friendship and selfless behavior. Adding to this film's considerable charms are songs by honey-voiced Carly Simon, including "Sing Ho for the Life of the Bear" and "The More It Snows," with lyrics adapted from A. A. Milne's stories, and the catchy "With a Few Good Friends." Well received in theaters, Piglet's movie will be even bigger on home video with preschool Pooh lovers.

    Where is Piglet?

Piglet learns that sometimes being small is good. When you are small or not too tall you can help in a "big" way. You will learn the lesson that being small may allow you to do things "big" people can not accomplish. Join Piglet and the gang on a "big" adventure in the 100 acre wood, you will not be disappointed. **Great family entertainment for children eight (8) and younger with their parents or guardians. If you enjoy this DVD you should try this DVD, "Mama, Do You Love Me?" by Betty Birney (with Doors of Wonder). This is a review for that DVD: (review title: 4ever & Always)Who is Nyla? Who is Rascal? Why are they important to this story? These and many other questions will be answered during the course of this DVD. For young learners, ages 4 to 8 years old, this is a good DVD. Its length of about 25 minutes is appropriate for youth 4 to 8. "Mama, Do You Love Me?" by Betty Birney (with Doors of Wonder) is about the celebration of the arrival of spring, it has a wonderful storyline and the illustrations are sure to fascinate viewers. This DVD is informative, educational, and entertaining. You may use this in the classroom as part of cultural celebrations and/or family relationships. **Good sound track and narration.

    My 3-year-old loves it

This is the only full-length movie my 3-year-old can watch all the way through without getting scared or bored. Any Disney movie inevitably has a villain that scares her (with good reason!). This is just wholesome, sweet and cute - the scariest thing in it is almost falling in the water and being lost in a rainstorm. I find it to be really sweet (I'll admit I cry at the end every time I watch it). Good lessons about the importance of friends helping each other. The music is nice too (by Carly Simon). Very enjoyable for little ones.
