Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) returns to the screen for another round of supernatural adventures on the high seas in this spirited sequel to the 2003 Disney hit, which re-teams original director Gore Verbinski with original screenwriters Ted Elliott and Terry Rossio. As Will (Orlando Bloom) and Elizabeth (Keira Knightley) prepare to exchange vows at the altar, their wedding plans hit rough waters with the arrival of sea-bound scallywag Jack Sparrow. It seems that Sparrow owes a substantial blood debt to half-octopus sea captain Davy Jones (Bill Nighy), and that the only way for the flamboyant sea rover to elude the wrath of his otherworldly pursuer is to seek the aid of mysterious and powerful voodoo priestess Tia Dalma (Naomie Harris), whose ability to resurrect the dead and gaze into the future may provide just the advantage needed to avoid a waterlogged fate in the locker of his legendary nemesis.

Well I have seen all three movies and I still like this one the best. If you ask me Bill Nighy stole the show with his impressive adaption of Davy Jones. I personally thought they did such a great job with the effects of him and his crew that you could just dive into the story. If you want to see what I mean and appreciate the work that Bill Nighy did playing the Davy Jones character you should take the time to watch the special features on this disc on the making of the character and it has a great look at how the design team did and how challenging it would be for him. Great movie
Jack Sparrow is hilarious; watch how he runs. In the first movie he say "I am an honest man you can always trust to be dishonest" i think that was what he said and it's so perfect.
And then Depp made it worse by biting the crusty nail off! Yuck! I have to admit that I loved the first Pirates because it had so much going for it, A-list cast, great comedy, great action & great effects. I cannot for the life of me understand why this one made so much more money than the first film! The 2nd film was too dark in context, too long & a lot of the jokes fell flat in my humble opinion. I hope Dead Man's Chest is just the curse of the 2nd film of a trilogy like Temple of Doom or Empire Strikes Back. Hopefully it will be better appreciated after we get the whole story. I'll have to wait until the third film before buying this one.
I just can't say enough good things about this movie it was awesome!
Dead Man's Chest is definitely not a bad film, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't disappointed a little. It's always tough to create sequels to successful blockbusters and have them live up to original's name. The first "Pirates" film had a rare charm that most other Hollywood pictures would envy. Fantastic characters, a great story, amazing special effects, and an all-around "fun" feel. It's not hard to understand why it became so popular. On paper, nothing really seems wrong with Dead Man's Chest. It has the same elements that made the first film a hit. Yet at the same time, something was missing. Two of the "main three" characters (Sparrow, Turner, and Swann) seemed to have experienced a personality makeover. Initially, all three characters are likable and you found yourself rooting for them through both good and bad intentions. That's not the case in DMC. A great amount of the storyline felt like filler, as if they were just there to set up the next action scene. This formula works for B-movies and martial arts films, but for a big budget film like this, it feels awkward. The humor is hit-and-miss. It's impossible not to smile Johnny Depp's performance, even at his most outrageous moments. However, it often feels that the writers tried too hard to squeeze in humor at inappropriate places just so they can meet their humor quota. This sort of bad timing is another element that sets it below the “Curse of the Black Peal” in terms of quality. Davy Jones and "Bootstrap" Bill Turner are two terrific additions to the "Pirates" cast. They both add to a very dark atmosphere that the overall story focuses on. While far-fetched at times, the action/sword-fight scenes are a ton of fun to watch and help make it an all-around solid film. The ending is not 100% satisfying, but that was done intentionally to build up anticipation for the third (and perhaps final) film. I hope that the third film improves on what I didn't like about the story and ties up all the loose ends so it can leave audiences feeling thrilled and satisfied.
I really enojoyed this sequel to the original Pirates movie, although they resused alot of the same jokes from the first movie. It was still awesome though I really enjoyed the action scenes, and the whole concept of Davy Johne's heart is awesome and creepy. I loved this movie =D I recommend it.
PC2 is a great movie. It keeps you quessing throughout the movie. I do like who comes back at the end. You will too. The third one is problay going to be the best one out all of them, though.
i love this movie at first it was scary then i like how he shot the bird hahah that part kicked me lol i went soo many times to watch it i cant wait till the third one comes out thank god johnny depp is playing in the third one or i would die the third on comes out may 25,2006!YAY
Unfortunatly the second Pirates movie does not hold a candle to the first. It is a race to the profit margin for Disney. Hokey plot, hokey special effects and I think a monkey wrote the screenplay. The only good thing was Johnny Depp. But even he could not save the script.
Like many, I was surprised that this film was good. It had a few flaws as all sequels must but overall I highly recommend this film, especially if you were a fan of the first. A few problems I had were the predictability of Jack and the sudden turn in both Will and Elizabeth's character. I'm not so fond of that but hopefully, the third film will redeem the second.
Pirates of the Caribbean was somewhat boring at the beginning, but once it started into the story, it was pretty good. Throughout the movie, it was kind of confusing. you would have to really pay attention in order to understand it. Some parts of the movie were unnecessary, we could have done without it. I did not like the choice of the actress Keiera Knightly, there could have been better actresses right for the part. It was a little too long, if they cut out more scenes, it could've been better. The music was really good, and Johnny Depp played really well. The scenery was astounding. The graphics were amazing throughout the movie.
I dont understand why everyone is knocking this film i have seen it 4 times in the theater alone. i do believe that everyone who is saying "how bad" it is, is just not seeing the whole picture this movie leads us to the main part of the series for the third movie. It also sets a new stage for the romance between wil and elizabeth and elizabeth and jack sparrow.
I loved the first Pirates of the Caribbean, and was a bit skeptical of a sequel. 99% of all sequels are horrid. I was pleasantly surprised and utterly grateful, that Dead Man's Chest was every bit as good as Curse of the Black Pearl. The humour, the action, the romance, the story-line. I am looking forward to the next Pirates movie. Thank you Johnny Depp for creating another original character.
I LOVE THIS MOVIE!!! It is just as good as Curse of the black Pearl. I don't see how anyone would not like it. The special effects are amazing. Escpecially for Davy Jones and his crew. They look like they are real! Other special effects that are amazing, are when the Flying Duchman comes out or goes into the water. Jack, of course, is very funny in this one also. He is trying to settle a deal with Davy Jones so he doesn't have to join his crew, and stay away from the kracken. Will is trying to save Elizebeth, and at the same time, Elizebeth is trying to save Will. Along with trying to save Elizebeth, Will is also trying to save his father. This is great movie! I cannot pick a favorite out of all three. I LOVE POTC!!!!!
'Pirates Of The Caribbean - The Curse Of The Black Pearl' is an outstanding movie, hilarious, unique, original and well made, and the sequel is just as great if not better. 'Pirates Of The Caribbean - Dead Man's Chest' is (like the original) hilarious, unique and well made plus it takes a different tone in some places of the film, with a lot more character development. The three cliffhangers at the end of the movie are just surprising and great. The DVD is well worth getting, very good quality and sound and the extra's especially the cast interviews and the maker's interviews are great and the making of Davy Jones. I am looking forward to the third movie 'Pirates Of The Caribbean - At Worlds End'
The constant references back to the first movie was stupid not allowing the movie to stand on it's own. Worse was how Depp destroyed the Jack Sparrow character. There was no intelligence behind Sparrow, no shrewdness, and he certainly wasn't a "good man". Depp and Knightly grossly overacted. For most of the movie I thought the star was Orlando Bloom. The only reason this movie doesn't get a zero is because of Bloom. He did well with nothing to work with. The special effects were awful, so pale compared to the first. The more I think about Pirates 2 the less I like it.
