The four films of this Classic Crimes Collection began airing on A&E in December 2005 and made their way back across the pond to the U.K. airwaves in 2006. "The Mystery of the Blue Train," finds Poirot meeting a beautiful, wealthy woman on a trip to the south of France. "Cards on the Table" is an especially rich episode, featuring Star Trek: Deep Space Nine's Alexander Siddig as a wealthy tycoon named Shaitana. Shaitana invites Poirot over for a bridge game with the promise that his fellow guests will include four murderers and three other detectives -- Ariadne Oliver Zoe Wanamaker, Secret Service agent Colonel Hughes Robert Pugh, and Superintendent Wheeler David Westhead of Scotland Yard. When a man dies suddenly in "After the Funeral," Poirot is called in to investigate his suspicious demise. And finally, in "Taken at the Flood," Poirot gets a visit from a psychic who claims the spirit of a rich woman's husband is protesting her marriage to a new man. Extras on the set include an index of all of Agatha Christie's Poirot stories, and biographies of Christie and Suchet.

    Love Suchet, but disappointed with this Poirot

    I own every Agatha Christie Poirot movie and TV set with David Suchet. I've also read quite a few of the books. In every case, David Suchet has always been impeccable as Poirot and it continues with this set. However, my disappointment is not with his performance. It's with the scriptwriters and producers who have radically changed Christie's superb plotting and the characters. In the past all Poirot movies and episodes were very close to the books and the result was terrific. Here, we get sloppy story telling, silly characters and plots that are hastily summed up. I have the biggest problem with "Mystery of the Blue Train." The always annoying Elliott Gould, who hasn't done anything of note since "Mash" in the 70's, is terribly miscast as the rich American father. He is loud, foolish and unbelievable. The British actress playing his daughter seems to be having a problem with an American accent. They've made many character and plot changes from Christie's book to where it's barely recognizable. The daughter's husband was supposed to have a relationship with a beautiful and alluring woman. Here her character is different and played by a very unattractive actress. In "Taken at the Flood" there are also many changes from Christie's book. At the end Poirot has to rush through a very unbelievable explanation of the crime. It's unbelievable because the people in charge did a hatchet job to Christie's plot and just threw in some truly silly red herrings. These stinky fishy points simply don't fit. I wouldn't even have a problem with these changes if they made sense and retained the mystery. But as they have also done with the new Miss Marple series, the changes are radical. I own this set and I would NOT recommend it to Agatha Christie fans. I do love David Suchet! However, even he seems to be ill at ease with this new production team. I really don't blame him.

    Poirot Classic Crimes Collection - David Suchet - Agatha Christie Mystery These are great mysteries, I have many in the series and I am never disappointed in the production. If you want a great mystery Agatha's Poirot has great style.

    This set of four Poirot Classic Crimes is great as are the other sets I have. David Suchet has been nomineed and righty so for a Tony Award for his creative characterization of Hercule Poirot. Infact there are some that say he does such a wonderful job he truly is Hercule. In this collection and in many others, Miss. Lemon and Captain Hastings have larger roles then in the books. Pauline Moran's, Miss. Lemon and Hugh Fraser's, Captain Hastings are so very well done you find yourself wishing they were in the books. In this collection the very Belgian sleuth is as captivating as always with his little gray cells doing all the work. When you finish watching them, you will find yourself rewatching them, looking for the clues you missed. Every time you watch them you will find more clues you missed as well as other parts of the story or setting details that you did not notice the first time. Chief Inspector Japp played by Philip Jackson was again a great choice of actors, He has made Chief Inspector Japp not a police detective fool but a real person. He has made him human doing the best he can and a perfect character for Poirot to work around and with. David Suchet takes these other characters written into these productions and works with them so brilliantly. "Taken at the Flood" is not a title you will find on all of Christie's mystery book lists, it may go by another name or be a couple put together, but it flows very well and is a good "who do it". Poirot is the one and only detective that can solve "The Mystery of the Blue Train", "After the Funeral" and "Cards on the Table" mysteries the other in the collection. These productions do have a life of there own and do have many changes from the books to help them make that more from book to screen. Agatha Christie was some times involved in these changes other times not. All of these mysteries are very well done and a tribute to Christie's writing. A&E have done a special job with these collections. I would recommend any of their Hercule Poirot Classic Crime Collections. I would also recommend reading Ms Christie's books as a nice complimentary action when watching them.

    A great evening's entertainment!

    David Suchet's Poirot is such fun to watch! These mysteries are so well crafted that one can watch and enjoy them over and over. Suchet's characterization of Poirot is complete down the smallest detail. It is so enjoyable to watch England of the 1930's come to life.

    Do not like the Classic Crime Collection.

    Prefer the numbered Classic Collections. The Crime Collection is not as entertaining.
