Overview

Steven de Souza's made-for-cable Showtime religious psychological thriller Possessed comes to DVD with a widescreen transfer that produces an image with a 1.85:1 aspect ratio. An English soundtrack is rendered in Dolby Digital 5.1, while a Spanish soundtrack is available in Dolby Digital Stereo. There are no subtitles, but the English soundtrack is closed-captioned. Supplemental materials include an interview with real-life exorcist Father Halloran, filmographies, and a link to associated websites. This is a fine DVD release that should interest genre enthusiasts.

This movie was based upon an actual Exorcism occuring in the United States. Contrary to the previous review, it was NOT the only sanctioned Exorcism to be performed in the U.S. by the Catholic Church in the 20th Century. In fact, just months ago, Pope Benedict XVI appointed 120 new Exorcists due to the "increasing demand for exorcisms around the world". Timothy Dalton was great. The was the Case which inspired the original movie "The Exorcist" but they replaced the boy with Linda Blair. The True version (Possessed) is far more accurate, and therefore, far more scary. I was pleased with it.

The movie takes too many liberties with the original story. The end result is a piece of garbage that sullies the name of a good priest.
