I took yoga classes with my mother when I was a little girl. They called me "Little Yogi". This was back in the 70's, and we followed a woman named Lilias Folan, who also had a TV show. (She still is an amazing woman!) When I was a teen, I started all the jazzercise, aerobics, etc....but something always brought me back to the essential stretching & relaxation of yoga....but I never really got INTO yoga. When I was about 30, I suffered a neck injury, which also affected my back with constant pain. Not wanting to take "big pharma's" hand, and stay medicated to deal with the pain, I was eventually urged to see a medical doctor who also practiced acupuncture. After 2 months of weekly sessions, I can honestly say that it did the trick! Learning more about the chakras & ways acupuncture actually works, I decided it was time to once again become "Little Yogi". My injury had caused 5'2" me to gain about 20-30lbs in only a couple years.
I still had Lilias' original book from so long ago. But then, for video instruction, I tried a few of the more popular aerobic instructors, who were starting to gravitate to the renewed popularity of yoga themselves. And then I found Rodney Yee.
I watched in amazement what he could do, in the beginning of one of his videos....true commitment to a practice thousands of years old. I thought I could never get close. Yoga is actually a lot more intense than a lot of people think! Yet it's quiet benefits are unreal if you take the time to really learn about the actual internal health benefits. For me, starting with Rodney Yee, and only a few short sessions a week, took me down from a size 12 to a size 3 in a very short time.
The thing that separates Rodney Yee from other popular instructors of the day was his instruction of BREATHING. Without proper breathing, yoga, nor any exercise, will ever do the job you hope to, as quickly beneficial.
So many instructors have come out in more recent years, who do focus on yoga & pilates...and I can't comment on anyone else because of my loyalty to Rodney Yee. He is true to form and a true original solely dedicated to the practice of yoga.
The reason I purchased this set, and so happy to find it here at B&N for such a great price...was to replace my videos to DVDs.
My back & neck issues still come and go, and I'm careful to follow Rodney Yee's instructions of relaxing, and breathing, and not to tense up the muscles while practicing yoga....which would only aggravate my areas of pain.
This set can get intense, and may not be the best to BEGIN yoga---but definitely a standard that should be on anyone's shelf if you are serious about finding the true benefits of yoga.
I'm recommending other DVDs of Rodney Yee's that I personally have and would recommend as a good starting point....and then add this one!

Power Up is amazing, the three DVD's are a bit challenging, especially Power Yoga: Strength, it's fast paced but not impossible. Strength Building is great, there are two sessions on that one, both are fantastic. Some of the poses on the second half are more challenging, but most can be done by beginners as well as advanced practitioners. My personal favorite is Energy Balance, while unlike the two other titles where there is soothing talk, Rodney Yee simply states the pose and this lets your mind concentrate on your inner self. I enjoy all three, they differ from one another and I feel it's a 'must have' addition to anyones collection. No matter how stressed I am, Power Up, gives me the energy I need for the day and leaves me with a wonderful feeling of relaxation.
