Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea

Wonderful Prenatal Yoga DVD!

After reviewing several recommended prenatal yoga DVDs, I decided to purchase this one. I am not disappointed! My husband (!) and I did it for the first time last night and we can't wait to incorporate it into part of our evening routine now.

After doing the DVD just one time, I already felt stretched and relaxed. The positions are designed to follow whether you are in your first, second, or third trimester, it was easy to follow, and the transitional flow between positions was smooth. I have done yoga in the past, although not consistently, and I found this workout to be easy enough, yet still a bit of a challenge.

There are three workouts, plus a relaxation segment at the end. You can easily do the entire workout at once or just the one's you want for that day. Highly recommended!

Excellent DVD

I am a physically fit 32 year old and am 5 months pregnant. I have been having lower back problems over the last couple of weeks and decided to try Prenatal Yoga. I was practicing Vinyasa Yoga prior to pregnancy and then stopped because of the nausea and fatigue. However, you do not need to have any Yoga experience to try this out. This DVD rocks -I tried it for the first time 2 days ago and my back felt completely stretched out, along with the rest of my body. The best thing about this DVD is that there are 3 people simultaneously practicing in the class, each one representing a different trimester. Therefore, you just follow the adjustments of the person who reflects where you are in your stage of pregnancy. It suggests you use a strap for some of the stretching parts, but I just used a towel with the same effect. She also tells you when to inhale and exhale, which I feel is important in delivering the best stretching results. Enjoy

A Favorite Yoga Work-out During Pregnancy and After

I used this yoga work-out during and after two pregnancies and loved it! I found Shiva Rhea's voice calming and her instructions and modifications easy to follow. I used many of the positions during labor to successfully alleviate pain. I highly recommend this video as good body and mind conditioning for any mom-to-be or mom-already-am. Namaste.

Use This Video!

I love this prenatal yoga video. The workout is structured with three women, each representing a trimester. You follow the woman who represents your trimester. The stretches are modified accordingly. I feel so relaxed and refreshed after doing this workout. My muscles feel toned. My belly feels tighter/stronger after a workout, so I don't feel so huge and cumbersome.

Dob't waste your time

If you've ever done yoga before, even once, this will not be challenging to you. It's slow, repetitive, and boring. I gave it 2 stars because it does well to modify the poses for the different tri-mesters.

Prenatal Yoga with Shiva Rea

Shiva is the supreme God, Lord of Dance. He is one of the five primary forms of God. Shiva Rea's father named her in honor of Lord Shiva. She did not connect with this name until her teens when she started practicing yoga. She is now a world-renowned yoga teacher.

This video will benefit anyone wanting a well thought out yoga routine. There are three women representing the three stage of pregnancy. Follow Shiva if you are in your first stage, 0 to 4 months. Follow Britta if you are in your 2nd stage, 4 to 7 months. Follow Poppy if you are in your 3rd stage of pregnancy, 7months to the birth of your child.

For those that are new to yoga, I recommend following Poppy. The squat move is an example of a more strenuous move. With practice, slowly move up to where you feel more comfortable.

Shiva Rea says "Your breath helps you connect with your baby. Standing poses provide strength, flexibility, balance and stamina. Squats help open up your pelvis and bring elasticity to your pelvic floor. Your well being affects your baby, dedicate yourself to helping bring your child to a healthy, peaceful environment."

My only down side to this video is that at the intro, Shiva's voice is very relaxed almost to the point of feeling a little over done. A few may be set back by this but it really does pay off throughout to bring on relaxation.

Shiva herself is not talking during the filming of the yoga session; it is an overlay of her voice. This gives it a claming effect as she is simply moving fluidly.

The relaxation at the end of the session is reason enough to view this video. The soothing subliminal suggestions release all remaining tensions while allowing the flow of oxygen to saturate all areas newly unlocked from the previous asana's.

The massage part of the video brings your partner into the journey. There are some very helpful tips here.

This really is one of the best prenatal videos out there. You want the baby nestled safely inside the best home you can provide. Follow this and you are helping to make available the best environment to start the life of your child. You are increasing your blood flow and loosening your muscles, calming your internal environment, toning your body. Add this to your day along with a healthy external environment, nutritional food, and loving response to your world.

How I got through labor

This is the first gift I buy for expecting friends. It is absolutely the most wonderful way to get through those last rough months. When I got REALLY big, I just did the first stretching part each morning and it worked wonders. Without the flexibility that came from doing this yoga, I would have had a much harder time in the delivery room. I recommend this to all expectant mothers!

So relaxing and centering

This workout is very relaxing yet I have never felt stronger. Shiva Rea's calm manner and the flow between poses helped me to de-stress with each workout. I was afraid my back would hurt during my pregnancy, but I've felt great ever since I started using this workout in my second trimester. I would definitely recommend this to all my pregnant friends.

No more back pain!

I got this DVD while already in my third trimester. The yoga poses have helped tons with reducing back pain. It's a slow, gentle workout that is about all I can handle at this stage. I can't walk or do much other exercising at this point of my pregnancy, so this DVD has been great. Highly recommended, especially if you're a beginner, like I am.

Great workout for all pregnancy stages

As an experience yoga student, I wasn't expecting much from this video, but I was pleasantly surprised. I usually like very upbeat, fast-paced classes, but this was just right for me in my first trimester. Afer the work out, I felt stretched out and stronger, and my back particularly felt stronger. I appreciated the time to bond with my baby, and got a much better stretching work-out than I expected. No pregnancy yoga class will compare to your pre-pregnancy yoga style, so try not to compare the two!

Very boring, not the least bit challenging

I can't stand this video. It is so boring and uninspiring. The instructor's voiceover is incredibly annoying and many times does not even match what she is doing. There was absolutely no flow between poses. The workout was not challenging at all. Don't waste your time or money with this video. I heard Leisa Hart's FitMama is much better - I will try that one next.
