Owing as much to The Lion King as to Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, A&E's family adventure takes the Walking with Dinosaurs model a step further -- this film stars actual lions who speak with the help of some tasteful CGI. The story follows two cubs, Suki and Linus, who come to learn that, yes, it truly is a jungle out there. Under the care of their steadfast mother, Macheeba, the cubs enjoy carefree play and swear to stay together forever. As the circle of life continues, however, responsibility to the pride and, in Suki's case, wanderlust threatens to tear Suki and Linus further and further apart. Pride is the kind of movie that leaves you asking, "How'd they do that?" The answer, of course, is very carefully. Director John Downer and a team of trainers, who shot on location in Africa, elicit realistic, A-list performances from their animal cast, thanks to some groundbreaking techniques. Among these is the "boulder-cam," a device not unlike a hide-a-key that allows a remote-controlled camera disguised as a boulder to film the imperial felines from mere inches away. The presence of top-notch human voice talent doesn't hurt, either. The voice cast show pride in their work: Kate Winslet, Rupert Graves, and Helen Mirren are solid leads, while Jim Broadbent and Robbie Coltrane provide comic relief à la Statler and Waldorf of The Muppet Show -- and Sean Bean and John Hurt show up in choice villain roles. The result is like nothing you've seen or heard; and it's a compelling story for both children and adults to boot. (For those with cubs of their own: No animals were harmed during filming, but Pride does contain some scenes in which animals display their natural ferocity.)

    this is the life of the lions and i bet you'll think of the lion king especially its sequel. you have the girl lion voiced by kate winslet wanting freedom and falls for a tough lion voiced by sean bean and the adventures of life on the other side of the valley than what she's used to. it was alright and glad that they used real lions and had a little cgi with the lion's moving their mouths to speak.
