Overview

Four children jounrey through space and time to bring justice to a remarkable fantasy world in this made-for-TV drama for the family. Young Prince Caspian (Samuel West) is the nephew of King Miraz (Robert Lang), the despotic ruler of the once magical land of Narnia. Caspian has heard tales of the olden days of Narnia, when six lords ruled the land with benevolence and wise animals spoke with humans. Caspian wants to restore Narnia to its former glory, and he calls upon four children living in another world -- Peter (Richard Dempsey), Susan (Sophie Cook), Edmund (Jonathan Scott), and Lucy (Sophie Wilcox), kids from London who can travel to Narnia through a magical wardrobe -- to help him bring the banished rulers back to Narnia to depose Miraz. Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn Treader was based on stories from The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis; it was the second in a series of three films produced by the BBC, and was first aired as a four-part miniseries.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
These two episodes of the lavishly mounted BBC miniseries continue C.S. Lewis's timeless saga of good versus evil. In Prince Caspian, Peter, Susan, Lucy, and Edmund return to Narnia to protect a young prince who has been marked for death by his uncle, the tyrannical king Miraz. The real adventure begins in The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, in which Lucy and her "singularly discourteous" cousin Eustace join Caspian's quest to find seven lords banished for their loyalty to his father. Costumed characters, fantastic creatures, swashbuckling battles, and endearingly low-tech special effects cast a charming, old-fashioned spell. The other installments in the series -- the award-winning The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and The Silver Chair -- are also available on VHS and DVD individually or in a boxed set.
