Quantum of SolaceDirector: Marc Forster, Daniel Craig, Olga Kurylenko, Mathieu Amalric
A devastating betrayal sends James Bond from Australia to Italy and South America on a mission of vengeance that pits the suave super-spy against a powerful businessman with diabolical intentions. Betrayed by Vesper, 007 (Daniel Craig) suppresses the urge to make his latest mission personal as he teams with M (Judi Dench) to interrogate Mr. White (Jesper Christensen). It soon becomes apparent that the organization behind the blackmailing of Vesper is more powerful than Bond and M had previously anticipated, and after discovering forensic evidence that links an MI6 traitor to a bank in Haiti, Bond immediately sets out to gather more intelligence. Once in Haiti, a case of mistaken identity leads Bond into the company of the ravishing Camille (Olga Kurylenko), a dangerous beauty with her own vendetta. It's Camille who leads Bond to a ruthless businessman named Dominic Greene (Mathieu Amalric), who is soon revealed to be the mastermind of a powerful but clandestine organization. Greene is conspiring to corner the market on one of the world's most precious natural resources, and in order to make that happen he has forged a deal with an exiled general named Medrano (Joaquin Cosio). By enlisting the aid of his many associates and using his vast resources to force contacts within the CIA and the British government into bending to his will, Greene plans to overthrow the current regime of a Latin American country and hand control over to General Medrano in exchange for a parcel of land that appears barren on the surface, but actually houses a natural resource that will make Greene the most powerful man on the planet. But Bond's mission to uncover the culprit who blackmailed Vesper and prevent Dominic Greene from exerting his will on the entire world won't be easy, because now everyone from the CIA to the terrorists and even M are out to get him.

After Sean Connery, Daniel Craig is the best James Bond. A new Bond movie is (finally) in the works now. Until its release, Quantum of Solace is always fun!
Good sequel. Feels a bit like the Bourne movie. As an action film its really good.
Like many people, I grew up with a dark haired James Bond full of gizmos and cheeky one-liners. Somewhere into Pierce Brosnan's run as Bond I lost all interest in a series that, to me, had become a joke (not unlike Joel Schumacher's take on Batman). Then Casino Royale came out. Bond was suddenly believable and in my opinion Daniel Craig delivers the BEST Bond to date. The storyline, script, acting and visuals, everything about Casino Royale was phenomenal. Then Marc Forster got his hands on the next movie. The main redeeming qualities of QoS are the still top-notch acting abilities of Craig as well as the brief, but important, part played by Giancarlo Gianni (Mathis). Now for the bad: This movie is essentially one long action scene. Action scenes are great, don't get me wrong, but when every little thing results in a car/plane chase, shoot out, what-have-you; you know you're missing a storyline. Casino Royale set the stage for what would ideally be a very powerful and terrifying criminal organization; represented by the chilling Le Chiffre (expertly portrayed by Mads Mikkelsen). Quantum takes that organization and practically castrates it. Forster just seemed to lack the level of grit and darkness that really made Le Chiffre's employers so terrifying. Also, Mathieu Amalric as Dominic Green is almost laughable. He is one of the worst villains in the franchise's history (Just listen to his "battlecry" when he attacks Bond with an axe at the end and you'll understand). Quantum of Solace is important to watch because it shows that even when a good background has been setup and there is a great cast, a bad director and writer can really destroy a movie.
For you folks reading this in England, don't worry. That grinding noise you hear is not an earthquake, it is only Ian Fleming spinning in his grave. The producers of this movie seem to think that stringing chases (car, foot, boat, and even airplane) together with lots of explosions doth a movie make. I obviously disagree. Craig is a good bond (third best after Connery and (yes) Lazenby) but has no script to work from. The producers need to review the first 3 Bond movies and work from there. Hopefully. There is no direction to go from here buy up. Personally, I regret wasting the four bucks it cost to rent it.
You'll need to have memorized Casino Royale (I did) or just seen it right before this one, or else you will be completely lost. If you were a fan of the last one this is essentially more of the same, you'll have fun. In the context of character development and plot, this whole movie is just a long epilouge to Casino Royale. It embelishes on things already established in the previous installment, and sets us up for a nice "Game On" status going into the next movie. Doesn't stand on it's own, but as an episode of what will be a bigger saga it's a nice morsel.
Great sequel..can't wait for the next one...this one left open the search for Mr. White! Daniel Craig is exceptional as 007 and rates up there with Sean Connery and Pierce Brosnan. Craig's Bond is more gritty. I do miss Q but that was getting a little too farfetched. Love Judi Dench as M.
Very fun to watch The action sequences were incredible. The new Bond Girl (Olga) is hot. The plot was weak. It wasn't as good as Casino Royale which was more exciting. The story kept you hooked. Quantum is too short! The story had many flaws, and wasn't as suspenseful and exciting, but the action was great! One fight scene after the next. The direction was good, and the climax and car chase were brilliantly executed. Casino's still the best. Daniel Craig's performance is just too awesome to put in words. He's my role model since Layer Cake. Olga is the best Bond girl, Matthew Amaleric is good but forgettable, Judi Dench is just incredible, and the supporting cast were great.
I like this movie becaue I think that Daniel Craig makes a great James Bond The aerial and automotive stunts were spetacular and I love it how in the end sequence at the fiery battle they made the villan for an instant look truely insane
skip it and save your money. Where have you gone James, James Bond.
This was an INCREDIBLE film. Daniel Craig is definetly a Bond for the books. Even if it wasnt as good as Casino Royale, its prequel, it still was great. Dominic Greene was the most realistic villan of any film series, almost equivilant of Le Chiffe! Go see this film.
From the absolutely awful opening song, to the none to soon end, this latest in the Bond franchise is a disaster. There are no gadgets, no Q, no tricked out Aston Martin, no humor, a very lightweight villain, and no moments of Bondian levity. This is a dark movie, in which Daniel Craig simply kills people; that is the plot in toto. Unfortunate too, is that the second half of the film takes place in exotic, glamourous, exciting......Bolivia; not only that, the finale takes place at a fuel cell run luxury hotel ....in the middle of the desert. Yes the hotel is all by itself out in the middle of nowhere. The directing is poor, too many quick cuts, and close shots. Dame Dench and Mr Giannini characters seem to be inserted as an afterthought. The action scenes are adequate, though inexplicably the cameraman loses a crashing car as it goes over a cliff, in the opening scene. Finally, to my fellow reviewers: you are way to generous in your reviews, if this were any other film series, this be a franchise killer.
The only issue we had with this movie is that we've had to watch it twice to catch all the plot twists and understand the connections with Casino Royale. Will watch again with Casino Royale first. Will watch over and over
Keeping in sync with Casino Royale, Quantum of Solace continues the exploration of the James Bond character. The movie follows the original concept that Ian Fleming created over 50 years ago. The action is fast paced and the plot moves along briskly.
