Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
Showtime's groundbreaking series chronicling the lives of gay men and women in Pittsburgh really hit its stride during the third season, which saw several relationships end and several more go through some very tough times. As in previous seasons, the language and sex scenes are graphic and uncompromising, but they don't constitute the show's raison d'être. The series is about life, love, and loss, and every viewer can relate to at least some of the problems faced by these personable characters. Folk is still dominated by hard-charging ad executive Brian Kinney (Gale Harold), whose relationship with young art student Justin Taylor (Randy Harrison) has dissolved as Season 3 opens. Now Justin has taken up with Ethan (Fab Filippo), but we're betting that they won't last the full 14 episodes as a couple. No-nonsense attorney Melanie Marcus (Michelle Clunie) is pregnant again, but she's haunted by fears that she'll miscarry before her first trimester has ended. Accountant cum Internet porn entrepreneur Ted Schmidt (Scott Lowell) gets involved with Emmett (Peter Paige), but their partnership undergoes some serious strain before the season is half over. And then there's Michael Novotny (Hal Sparks) and his perpetually positive mom, Debbie (Sharon Gless), who lands herself a man and comes to Ted and Emmett for a refresher course in oral sex! In a more ominous development, homophobe police chief Jim Stockwell (David Gianopoulous) decides to run for mayor -- and his campaign hires Brian to oversee the advertising. There's no shortage of plot complications in this group of superlative episodes, which further develop characters that were vividly drawn to begin with. Fine writing, sensitive acting, and incisive direction have combined to make this series one of cable's must-see programs, and a generous special features section makes it a must-own for fans on DVD.

    The Best Gay Show Ever

I would just like to say that this is the best show I have ever seen. It thrills me to see that people are actually seeing gay's in a different light.

    Semi good.

Queer as Folk: Season three didn't catch my attention like the first two seasons, but the overall thing was really good acting and the script. I do recommend that you watch it because it is very informative about politicians and them not giving two cents about the gay community. I think if you liked or loved the first two seasons that the third one is needed because you never know it might just be important to know some of the things that can happen just because your gay.
