It begins with a surveyor who is leading the town's crooked sheriff to a small marijuana field he has just discovered. The surveyor is killed before he can get there. Joshua, a small boy, sees the execution and tries to get back in time to tell his parents. Unfortunately, the killers murder his family and throw him off a cliff. The boy's aunt, worried at not hearing from her family, gets suspicious and asks an old flame, NY cop Joe Dillon, to investigate. The town sheriff is not pleased by his intrusion and warns him to stay out of it. Dillon disobeys, and that is where all the action comes in.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide - Jeremy Wheeler
This early New Line Cinema effort is known to be one of star James Remar's only heroic starring roles, though one look at the picture offers up plenty of other tantalizing reasons to jump in and catch this flick. Whether it's totally evil pot dealers or scenes of merciless moustache trimmings, the movie is never bland, nor anywhere near boring. As a product of 1986, it has the nonstop rhythm of the decade pulsing through its veins -- especially in the opening scene where Remar chases a roller-skating purse snatcher from the streets of New York down through the subway and into a subway car, all while on a motorcycle! As if that weren't enough, the movie also features a motorized jousting scene that's fairly reminiscent of George A. Romero's Knightriders except minus suits of armor and Tom Savini. Director Clay Borris shoots everything with a keen visual style that comes through with his distinct point-of-view cams along with a few horror-movie shocker moments that keep things interesting as the action unfolds. Nowhere near a staple of the genre, Quiet Cool is still a breezy good time that's good for a bunch of classic Remar moments as well as some over-the-top action scenes.
