I'm over 50 and wanted a DVD where I was not overwhelmed by the exercises or the instructor. Instruction is excellent and I was motivated to continue to exercise and buy the next DVD in the series. I have noticed a significant difference in my abdominal strength and mobility. My family has remarked that I was losing weight. I have finally realized that a strong back and abdominals are key to basic fitness. I can't afford private lessons at a local pilates studio but I think this DVD might be a great beginning. The sad truth is you have to start with the basics and Rael teaches you this. His next DVD ( system 17) builds on the first. I think Rael is the best instructor on an exercise DVD I have ever seen and at my age I've bought a lot of exercise DVD's. IF you need a real beginner DVD this is it.

If you are a beginner to Pilates, I would start with this DVD. It is great for strenghtening and streching your spine and back. Abdominal and leg work is also included. Because it is only about 22 minutes of actual workout I did not find it very challenging. Although it wasn't a sweaty and hard-to-catch-your-breath workout I felt more relaxed and calm after it was over.
