Just as Elvis, The Beatles, and Brian Wilson would inspire musicians for generations, The Ramones were a catalyst for everything that followed in their wake. Unlike the aforementioned, The Ramones never really achieved commercial success, and yet with the release of their first album in 1976 (not 1979), they sparked a revolution in modern rock music, by stripping away all the window dressing. No synthesizers. No solos. Just 2-minute long pop anthems of teen angst - set against a backdrop of buzzsaw-like guitars and pulsating tribal drums. Though Joey, DeeDee and now Johnny Ramone are no longer with us, the music and spirit of The Ramones will certainly live on with every teenage kid who picks up an electric guitar and strikes his first power chord. Gabba Gabba Hey!
