Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Christina Urban
Reba McEntire's home-grown family comedy remained a hit for the WB network in its fourth season, despite being shuttled all around the schedule. The events of Season 4 pick up where Season 3 left off: Reba (McEntire) and ex-husband Brock (Chris Rich) were caught in an embrace by Brock's new, younger wife, Barbra Jean (Melissa Peterman). Reba's kids, Cheyenne (Joanna Garcia) and Kyra (Scarlett Pomers), along with Cheyenne's dopey husband, Van (Steve Howey), are thrown into the middle of the family crisis. Despite his initial confusion, Brock comes to realize that he truly does love Barbra Jean, but when he goes to ask for her forgiveness he discovers that she's thrown him out the house. Bubbly, goofy Barbra Jean confides in Reba and they work out their differences, mostly because Barbra Jean has no other real friends. The relationship between the Reba and Barbra Jean is surprisingly affecting for a sitcom, and the series wisely focuses on the naturally friendly chemistry between the actresses. In other developments, Reba goes on a date with Barbra Jean and Brock's marriage therapist (James Denton from Desperate Housewives); Reba decides to become a realtor; and, at the close of the season, a hidden bottle of booze leads to the revelation that Cheyenne is an alcoholic.
