    more from this reviewer

    I Also Recommend:

A great movie with Patrick Swayze, C. Thomas, Lea Thompson, and Charlie Sheen early in their careers some 25 years ago. A must for "What If" people!!

Patrick Swayze is commanding in his performance (a small twist from his "Dirty Dancing" movie) and with his health issues, it is a reflection! Lea Thompson is sensuous even in winter gear (see "All the right moves") and is no "Jane Doe"!!! Speacial features include on disc 1 a "Carnage Counter" can be turned on or off. On disc 2 includes "Red Dawn Rising", "Traing for WW III", and "WW III comes to town". Great back drops in the Rockies and does include a booklet of information!!!

    Red Dawn

Red Dawn is a movie that young boys who grew up in the late 80's can relate to. I can remember seeing this movie and running outside with my friends and playing out every fighting sene. Yes, the movie is not the best in the world, but for a young boy this movie was (and still can be) great. It took a cold war topic and made teens heros of the American Cause. For a young kid at the time the movie came out this was all I needed. When this movie plays on TV I still set time aside to watch it as a 25 year old. This is a must see movie for any Boy (or Girl) that played Army as a kid.

"No one will ever go home again"

Althogh certainly not the most sophisticated of war movies, it still carries noble themes like friendship, fighting when you have to, and patriotism. Again, although this movie tended to be much like any Rambo machoistic film, it had a subtle message (suprisingly) anti-war. What does rankle an individual coming from this film is the fact you think our country could never be invaded, but there's a lingering doubt about that hopeful prospect. I found Swayze's and C. Thomas Howell's performances to be astonishingly accurate provided those situations. What I think all of us must remember about this film is that we could be invaded, maybe not Russian or Cuban Communists anymore, but by another insidious threat like an Iran, China or North Korea. Hypothetically speaking, anyway.

    Run to the hills

A great movie with a great cast. You'll see a lot of stars in this one. It's about a group of high school kids who get jacked one day when the USA is invaded by some country like Spain and they have to go to Big 5 to get supplies and hide in the mountains. then they battle it out with the insurgents.

    red dawn

Well, it's not far down to paradise - at least it's not for me. And if the wind is right you can sail away - and find serenity. Oh, the canvas can do miracles, just you wait and see. Won't you believe me? Sailing....takes me away....... to where I've always heard it could be

Look out Rambo, Swayze is on the loose!!

What has more action than any of the Rambo movies, the touch of class found only in Godfather, and the special effects of Krull? Red Dawn! This is one of the most overlooked war movies of the early 80s. If you haven't seen this then you are not a true Swayze fan. In this movie Patrick Swayze hyptnotized you like only he can. If you consider yourself a true American and you haven't seen this movie then go back to Iraq, Jack!

    Cult Classic

The critics could care less about this movie but I for one enjoyed it. It has a great story and characters you actually care about. In the cold war era this movie could have been a real possibility. You'll be cheering for these kids by the end of the movie. Sure some of the situations are a little far fetched but I've seen worse (Rambo III for one). This one's a keeper in my DVD collection.

    Could it happen?

After watching the movie back in 1984 at the height of the ''Evil Empire'', I came away with an ever so slight case of looking over my shoulder. I was posted to Germany in 1979 until my retirement in 2000, I watched my country from a distance and the movie reminds me of what I might have tried as a kid were those scenarios presented to me and my friends. I have also had the chance to let some of my friends (former Soviet grunts, like me) see it, now that we are all buddy buddy and we all have a fun time picking apart the movie just like any other war movie. Anti-Communist message-yes. Probable threat (dated) scenario-yes. Could it happen today? Remote, but then who could have forseen the New York attack? It's still a good Sunday afternoon movie to kick back with and pick apart.
