Overview

The third season of the farcical British sci-fi series Red Dwarf has been given the royal treatment for its release on DVD. Red Dwarf: Series Three has been transferred to disc in its original full-frame aspect ratio of 1.33:1, and the audio has been mastered in Dolby Digital Stereo. The dialogue is in English, with no multiple-language options included. This set has been beefed up with a healthy supply of bonus material, including commentary tracks from the cast for all episodes, a documentary on the production of the show, unused special-effects footage, isolated music tracks, highlights from the audio book adaptation of these episodes, outtakes and deleted scenes, a tribute to Mel Bibby (the show's designer), episode previews, and more.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble
Time travel, parallel universes, and a host of other sci-fi tropes become fodder for comedy in the BBC's wacky, long-running series Red Dwarf. Writers-creators Rob Grant and Doug Naylor mold a sci-fi sitcom that follows the exploits of Lister (Craig Charles), a deep-space miner who emerges from stasis 3 million years in the future to find that his only companions are Rimmer (Chris Barrie), a hologram of his dead bunkmate; Cat (Danny John-Jules), a humanoid who evolved from his pet cat; and Holly, the ship's computer. Continuing the tradition of absurdity set up in Series 1 and 2, Series 3 finds Lister pregnant with twins -- gasp? -- after a liaison with his female self in a parallel universe, which is only topped by the Red Dwarf's computer performs a sex change on itself, which made way for Hattie Hayridge to replace Norman Lovett in the role of Holly. Indeed, these drastic changes put the show further out of this world yet proved beneficial, as pushing the comic imagination to limits where no man had gone before made Red Dwarf one of the most hilarious comedies to emerge from England.
