    A wonderful sendoff for a life-changing show.

I was so lucky to finally have seen RENT on Broadway before the show closed. I have only seen the show once prior to this performance, with Neil Patrick Harris, so I was excited to revisit this world I first fell in love with, and what a way to, with the two talented men who brought Mark and Roger to life in the original production, Anthony Rapp and Adam Pascal, in 2007.

Anyways, for me, seeing this final performance was every bit as raw, electrifying, and beautiful as it would have been had I been in the actual audience. What a wonderful sendoff.

    Hmm..

I was a little disappointed with this DVD. I am a Renthead. I love RENT and just about anything associated with it - which is why I purchased the DVD.

I've seen RENT on Broadway three times and feel that each of the casts I saw did an amazing job. However, I was not thrilled with the cast on the DVD. I felt like the singing was, at times, cringe-worthy - which was a little devastating. I was hoping this DVD would be the best performance possible since it was not only the final one, but also because it was released on DVD!

    Forever

It's one of the best shows ever! The storyline, the subject material, the singing... all of it is nothing but Spectacular! Saw it twice in theatres! Never was able to see it on Broadway... but if I had, I know it would've been just as magical. It changes the way in which you view life, society and others. Well worth buying!!!!

    Fantastic

I saw it in theaters. It was amazing. The camera angles don't distract from the show, and it was extremely high quality film. The performances were outstanding and the singing blew me away, I can't wait for it. I have had it pre-ordered for a month!

    Emotionally Charged!

It's bittersweet to see the closing night of Rent but it's great to own a bit of Broadway history. This is a wonderful cast and if you haven't seen the stage version yet (please do!), this is the next best thing!

Now I'll be able to watch and remember...

When I saw this on the shelf I didn't even hesitate to buy it. I would have loved to see Rent one more time but I never made it. I have to say I remember the performance being better live but this is better than nothing.

If you missed this live on stage, you don't want to miss it on DVD.

Absolutely amazing...plus, loved the extras. If you weren't able to see it on stage, this is the next best thing. Crank up your sound system and you feel like your at the theatre.

    Great Idea

This was such a wonderful thing to finally see happen. More classic musicals should be filmed at the end of their run. Many fans of musical theatre who live so far away will benefit! That isn't to say that revivals won't be needed!

    A sad goodbye

Hard to believe RENT is not on broadway anymore but this dvd does an excellent job of tracking the final show. Excellent bonus on the filming and the return of original cast members. People that love RENT should have this in their collection.

Great Capture of a Great Musical

I have seen both the musical and movie prior to purchasing this DVD. This was an incredible filming of a Broadway classic. The actors chosen, including a couple originals, performed exceptionally. The angles and camera shots were taken with all of the actors positions taken into account. Not only can you see the immediate action, the background performances were captured with care to the script. It is almost as if you were in the theatre watching.

The extras on the DVD were just as enligtening. The only addition that could have enhanced it was the story of Jonathan Larsen. It is a great background story to this incredible tale. The documentaries that are on the DVD are insightful and emotional while capturing the energy and true feelings the performers had during their last week and last curtain call. A must own for the lover of musicals.

    Brilliant

Amazing show, Jonathan Larson was a genius who left us with the most amazing play in decades. The words have so much meaning and emotion behind them you can't help but be hooked. It may be set in a world that isn't know by today's youth but that doesn't stop it from having meaning and allowing them to connect the events in the show to their daily life. There really is "no day but today" as Larson says. You need to live for today and accept all that is in you life and everything that is handed to you with out taking it for granted because in the blink of an eye it can be taken away from you.

    A fan's must have

First off I'd like to throw out a disclaimer that I rarely if ever use 5 star reviews. I would give this a high 4.

The storyline and songs are all familiar to people who have seen Rent on broadway, one of the touring productions, or the DVD version a few years back. But what is exciting is being able to see the stage production with a camera. It zooms in and can focus on performers at certain points and is a great way to catch little things you might miss watching the stage as a whole. I like some portrayals of the characters more than others, but even the ones I wasn't a huge fan of didn't take away from the show as a whole.

    Overall it's a great watch.

The Best Show of ALL Time Forever On DVD

I am a huge RENTHEAD and love this show, seeing it several times. This dvd captures the essence of the show and reminds us all what the show was really about. I recommend it over the movie becasue this is actually the stage production put on DVD.

Good - wish it was Great

I love RENT and was thrilled that a live Broadway DVD recording was being made. My only regret is that the producers kind of missed the boat with the casting. I would have loved it if they had used the cast that was going to be used for a TV movie - Wilson Cruz as Angel, Rikki Lee Travolta as Roger, and Neil Patrick Harris as Mark. That would have been my Dream Cast. Alternatively they could have used the best of the best from Broadway - Norbert Leo Butz as Roger (or alternatively Manley Pope), Luther Creek as Mark, etc. The cast they used was suitable enough, just not the cream of the crop in terms of what they could have used. It was great to see the same JoAnne as in the movie - nice treat and thought she did better on stage then in the movie (and I liked her in the movie).
