Saw series mainstay Darren Lynn Bousman reunites with Twisted Pictures producers Oren Koules and Mark Burg for this futuristic shocker detailing a terrifying epidemic of organ failures. The denizens of planet Earth have been devastated by inexplicable and widespread organ failures, and as a result scientists begin planning a substantial organ harvest. Though an innovative biotech conglomerate subsequently offers the fearful public a means of maintaining their health by enacting a series of hassle-free organ payment plans, things begin to get messy when it's revealed that the financed body parts are subjected to legal default, and that failure to maintain proper payment will result in forceful repossession of the organs. Paul Sorvino and Spy Kids' Alexa Vega star alongside celebrity socialite Paris Hilton in the Lionsgate film.

This was one of those movies I took a chance on, and a good chance it ended up being. The movie tuned very hypnotic as it went on, the music rocked, and the story line actually worked well. It is pretty much a musical, so prepare yourself for singing. And saying that, a couple of the performers in this movie could barely carry a tune, but don't judge the movie on that, because you end up not paying attention, due to the awesome visuals on the screen. This movie is definitly worth seeing, its dark, sexy, and brutal, all in one. What more could you ask for? Oh, and one more, Sarah Brightman stole the show on this movie.
I do not understand how so many critics can give this movie a bad rap claiming that it is unoriginal, boring, cliche, poorly made, and has lame music. What movie were these critics watching? If you ask me, this movie is everything that critics like Kurt Loder said it wasn't. The dark seedy futuristic world that this movie takes place in is the perfect setting for the dismal, gruesome, and at times heart wrenching story that it portrays with just the right ammount of humor. Definitely worth a watch. The music is great and catchy, the visuals are incredible, and the acting is amazing. Throw in an original storyline and an emotional plotline and you are in for a treat. Please give it a chance. It is definitely the cult movie that so many critics don't think it is.
This movie came out in very limited release, but it was worth the drive we endured to see it. It's actually a unique concept...combining a rock opera with the gruesome shock of the SAW movies. The rock music is excellent, often driving and danceable, and the cinematography is admirable. Most people will be surprised at what an outstanding tenor that veteran actor Paul Sorvino is. Another surprise was the performance of Paris Hilton. I never thought she had any sex appeal until this film. Repo is not for the faint of heart, as there are many scenes of gore and mayhem. But the scenes of the Repo Man singing while removing body parts has to be seen to be believed. If you have the stomach for horror, see this film (even if you do not like musicals).
She loved this movie called it her generation "Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Repo! has been such an amazing experience for myself and a few of my friends. It isn't only a movie - it's an event! The music and performances are absolutely outstanding. Repo! is one of those projects that just brings people together. If you're a fan of horror films and great music - Repo! is for you.
The actors are perfect for the roles they were cast in. The plot is definitely thought-provoking, but I was left a little wanting in some areas. The music is AMAZING and, even if some plot points leave you a little cold, the music more than makes up for it. Over all, a very good buy for musical lovers and everybody else too!
Violence and gore combined with a truly amazing and eclectic cast plus the stunning visual effects and you've got Repo the Genetic Opera. It's a rock opera and compares to no other. It moved to my favorite film slot very quickly after my first time seeing it in theaters. I've seen it 3 times in theaters. I bought the DVD right away (last copy at store) and then I ordered two more copies (one for brother, one for sister) because yes, it's that awesome. I cannot recommend this film enough, unless you're a very bland and boring person that likes boring and bland films. If that's NOT you, then grab a copy. The cast was just incredible and the songs are fantastic (3 are up for Academy Awards) and you WILL find yourslef singing them. So, if you want to be instantly cooler, watch this film and enjoy.
Amazing play! As well as movie! The music was brilliant and witty! By far one of my favorite films!
I love this movie. It's moderate corny-ness gives it some comedy, while the plot is actually quite sad. If you have a weak stomach you may want to avoid this flick, as it can get pretty nasty, but a certain scene involving Paris Hilton is well worth it!
It's everything that makes a fantastic opera. The music is fantastic. It's sad and heart-wrenching. It's happy, it's funny It's creative, it's artistic. It's just...awesome.
while a little dark, fantastic movie worth watching, with a moral and a point, go figure? enjoy!
the movie was great and for all haters, Paris Hilton did very good in this movie at singing and acting. even my mom was surprised. i was never a fan of her but after this...i gained alot for her.great movie and its like a gothic wizard of oz
Intense, stylish, and over the top, a great addition to cult classic collections. The lyrics sometimes felt a little forced, it could have afforded a bit better writing in that respect, but the music made up for it. Paris Hilton was really surprisingly good in this, I didn't once want to stab her face. *Listens to Zydrate Anatomy on repeat*
I must first admit that I am not a horror movie fan, and I am not into slice people up type movies. I was very hesitant in sitting down to watch this movie, but I am a fan of both Anthony Head ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer", "Doctor Who" (2006) Episode: School Reunion) and Sarah Brightman (Best known for her role as Christine Daae in The Phantom of the Opera, which was written for her by her then husband Andrew Lloyd Webber). I had seen a preview for the movie and had checked the website, so I had a good idea that this movie might not be up my alley, yet the music was amazing and caught my attention to the point of having to see this movie. My initial reaction to this dark gothic tale of organ repossession was shock. Yet the story was one of love, betrayal, murder, deceit, greed, and vanity. The introduction and characters intertwined lives are all explained in a comic book style, which gives it a fun break from the traditional movie style. If you have a broad range in your sense of humor, you will find some great black humor that starts you off with your jaw hanging in shock but then leaves you chuckling and saying "gross" or "yuck". It is well worth a good look; whether you like horror, music, black comedy, or anything gothic. I loved the music so much that I watched it again the next evening, and was glad that I did as I caught even more of the story line. Another good side note, pay close attention to Anthony Head's (Nathan/Repo-Man) and Sarah Brightman's (Blind Mag) facial expressions. especially Sarah's when her character is around Paul Sorvino's character (Rotti Largo).
oK I LUV THIS MOVIE! THE MUSIC ROCKS AND THE ACTORS ARE AMAZING! i GOT IT REALLY FAST OFF b&n!!!
Nothing is better than Anthony Head, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, singing as the Repo Man. This was truely a new Rocky Horror Picture Film and just as amazsingly beautiful too. Loved it!
This has to be the best cult movie of 2008. With it's catchy Rock ballad songs such as "Zydrate Anatomy" and "Chase the Morning", it's easy to see why so many people are becoming obsessed. It's sung from beginning to end (hence "Opera") with minimal dialog, which makes it hard to understand some lines.
Despite the low budget, Repo's sets, costume, and quality are beautiful and make you want to live in the futuristic world. This is not just a slasher film, although there is plenty of violence to keep gore fans happy, there is a very interesting and unique story being told here. In fact, a whole world has been created in Repo and there is plenty of room for more stories to follow. Unlike many sequels, a sequel to Repo would be completely justified.
Now don't be fooled by seeing Paris Hilton's name on there. Her role was minimal and in my opinion, she was quite good. And I have to say I was deeply amused to hear Ogre's voice as Pavi. Hilarious.
The originality of this movie is a breath of fresh air. I highly suggest you see it.
I recommend the Blu-Ray because it comes with deleted scenes and features that the DVD does not include.
Repo! is the Rocky Horror for a new generation of cult movie watchers. It's a relatively dark story line, but the way in which it is told keeps things relatively light. Comic strip formatting is used in exposition, but the majority of the movie is live action. With the exception of Blind Mag (Sarah Brightman), the voices may not be the best of the best, but given that the cast is mostly actors who happen to be singing, they fit the characters and do an amazing job at keeping with character. Definitely a good movie if you can handle the concept of an organ repossession man.
BEST OPERA EVER!!!
