Overview

In 1985 The Return of the Living Dead successfully mixed gore and laughs to create a horrific cult classic movie. In 1987 a poorly received sequel followed, aptly titled The Return of the Living Dead 2. Six years later would see the third (and final?) installment in this series in the form of director Brian Yuzna's Return of the Living Dead 3. The first strike against Trimark's release of Return of the Living Dead 3 is that this is not the uncut version, but the 97-minute R-rated version. This is likely to disappoint fans, though the fact that they're receiving an anamorphic widescreen version of the film should make amends. The picture looks better than expected, with colors vibrant and flesh tones looking very solid. There is some grain and dirt present on the print, but this is to be expected of a film with such a limited budget. Though certainly not reference quality, Return of the Living Dead 3 looks about as good as it's going to get. Audio is less than impressive, with a Dolby Digital Surround 2.0 track performing only slightly above par. Although the effects and music are mixed well, dialogue sometimes sounded slightly strained. Once again this is forgiven since the budget on the film was around the price of a Happy Meal. Also included are Spanish, English, and French subtitles. Return of the Living Dead 3 includes some surprisingly well-produced extra features. Two commentary tracks are included, the first with director Brian Yuzna. This track includes information on how the sequel came to be and how the effects were done, and although a bit dry, this is a very informative and entertaining commentary for fans of the series. The second commentary track is by actress Mindy Clarke and special effects supervisor Tom Rainone. This track leans a bit more to the lighter side than the first track. Both participants seemed to enjoy their experiences on the film, and every once in a while get a good laugh out of the goings-on in the movie. Also included is a trailer for Return of the Living Dead 3, plus a few other Trimark home video titles. Brought back to life on DVD, Return of the Living Dead 3 will make a worthy addition to any true horror fan's film collection.

    I thought it was hilarious

Maybe I'm just jaded, but I had the tendency to ignore most of the sappy love scenes of this movie (although I guess they were okay). I focused instead on the cheesy dialogue some of the characters had. This turned it into one of the funniest movies I had seen in awhile, and one I would gladly recommend to others.

    Wild Girl..........

I thought this movie was really good. I first found out about this movie when I saw this video by Jack Off Jill. Basically, music video. This movie has some funny parts, but also some touching parts to the movie. I would see it is a movie to see more then once.

    monster of a love story

I had seen this film some years ago and i remembered it as a classic, so i watched it again last night.Better than ever i have to say.More zombie love story than flesheater,it still has plenty for the hardened splatter fans to lap up.Mindy Clarke is the undead to die for and she delivers a performance far more intense than the role would have called for.I would recommend rotld 3 to all fans of the genre and i believe that this is the best all round instalment of the series.

Keep an Open Mind - Very Open!

I just saw this movie for the second time on cable (it had been a while), and, really, if you can look beyond the massive plotholes in the storyline, it is not all that bad. It is certainly entertaining enough to hold the viewrer's interest. A young man named Curt (J. Trevor Edmond) is fed up with moving from base to base as his dad, Col. John Reynolds (Kent McCord) is continually being transfered due to the nature of his job. While his dad is working on a secret government toxin, Curt is unaware that it will be used to turn zombies into killing machines for warfare purposes. He finds out about the experiments only after he and his girlfriend, Julie (Mindy Clarke), go on a joyride and visit the site without authourization. Soon enough, after Julie is killed in a motorcycle accident, Curt brings her back to life using the toxin, and everything goes haywire! The plot is not the problem, but rather how it is executed. If you can ignore the many shortcummings of this film technically and simply view it as a ''what if...'' type of entertainment, then you may find it interesting. The acting is not bad by any means, and the special effects are fine. It drags a bit in the middle because too much occurs too early in the film, leaving the story to slowly unwind. However, I have seen a lot worse than this, and I have been watching horror films since I was five years old, including some very rare [and probably out of print] movies.

    Best of the RoTLD series

Great Zombie movie for all you Old School Zombie brain eaters out there, but oh, there's a developed love story to this one as well! Guy loses girl, Guy exposes girl to undead gas, girl becomes masochistic sexy flesh hungry Zombie! Can anyone say, BrRaAAaiInnsssSSsSs! Lots of interesting Zombies and gorey effects in this movie. A must for any Horror Collector.
