All Movie Guide
In this simplistic, predictable story enhanced somewhat by a good musical score and decent acting, the titular nerds would have been classified as computer geeks in a later era, but whatever they are, they are humiliated and ostracized by the rest of the pro-football, pro-frat college students until they devise a way of getting back at their hostile environment. First sent to sleep in cots in the gym because the football players burnt down their own residence and are taking over the nerds' freshman dorm, the male mental athletes are told they will have to stay in the gym until basketball starts, at which point the team has the floor. Exasperated, the rejected group of young men rent out a decrepit house and change it into an admirable place to live, establishing their own fraternity in the process. The difficulty is that the school does not recognize their fraternal union and so retrenching, the nerd-geeks align themselves with another, friendly fraternity that might have its own axe to grind, and the great revenge lies just over the horizon. John Goodman can be caught in a bit part here, if the audience does not blink. In the follow-up Revenge of the Nerds 2, the nerdy frat boys from Lambda Lambda Lambda go to Ft. Lauderdale to a national frat conference where they again must outwit the thick-tongued jock frat-boys who are also at the conference. This they can do.

    The Nerds Rule!

This is by far one of the funniest movies ever made. 'Revenge of the Nerds' obeys no political correctness, pays homage to no societal expectations, and is a Tomahawk Cruise Missile of Humor that hits you hard and then explodes your innards. This is the type of movie that the director Quentin Tarantino refers to as a 'hang-out movie', meaning that one can watch it over and over and over again without boring with it because one enjoys the characters so much. As you watch these films, you will marvel at the insanely hilarious antics of Wormser (as the little nerd), the boorish Coach (played by John Goodman), and of Ted McGinley as the Jock King.
