Rockford Files The classic 70's series continues with season five

Season Five of the Rockford files continues where seasons one, two, three, and four, left off. A must add for Rockford fans who will undoubtley want the entire series, but can be purchased as an individual season since each episode is self contained. James Rockford is one of the great 70's TV detectives. What makes him different from the other P.I.'s from that era is that he isn't widly successful. He's lives on a beatiful California beach but in a rusting trailer. Rockford can barely keep his head above water. He doesn't have everything go his way. Unlike most of the other 70's P.I.'s, Rockford is not steely eyed rough and tumble action hero. He's a pragmatist and part con man. He would rather talk or con his way of situation than fight or shoot his way out.

He's played briliantly against type by James Garner. His cast of series regulars and semi-regulars are the secret to the Rockford Files. They either imposing on or being opposed on by Rockford. Stuart Margolin as Angel Martin friend and pain in his side, Noah Barry as his dad Rocky, Gretchen Corbin as his lawyer/friend/ potential love interest and Joe Santos as Sgt.Dennis Becker are one of the best group of supporting actors ever assembled for a television series ever.

It's also fun to see the guest stars, some who went on to later stardom in their own right. Others who were stars or at least TV regulars in the 70's but who have since faded into obscurity. The episodes are well written and made even stronger by the actors. Like in all the other Rockford seasons it's fun to look back at the 70's from 21st century perspective. Big cars, big hair, brown everywhere.

One more thing Like all the other Rockford Files seasons, Five opens and closes every episode with one of greatest intrumental TV theme songs of all time written by the king of 70's TV theme songs Mike Post.
