Both Anna and her husband "Poppy" Grant must contend with the emotional baggage brought to their home by these "unwanted" kids, and both bear up quite well. The film's dramatic core concerns the Roses' efforts to reach a desperately unhappy 13-year-old girl Iris Mann and a physically handicapped boy with a penchant for getting into serious trouble Clifford Tatum Jr. Despite occasional moments of anguish and pathos, Room for One More for the most part opts for a light-hearted approach to its subject matter. In 1962, a TV sitcom version of Room for One More, starring Andrew Duggan and Peggy McCay, debuted as a mid-season replacement over the ABC network; at that time, the original film was re-titled The Easy Way.

All Movie Guide - Craig Butler
A rather average movie that plays more like a TV show, Room for One More is nevertheless notable for being one of Cary Grant's few films built around a family. Although the actor is top billed, the story really belongs more to the character played by his co-star and, at the time, wife, Betsy Drake. She's more the driving force, and while the creators were careful to build Grant's part up, it's still somewhat secondary by nature. This tampering with the screenplay's structure to accommodate the star or, more correctly, to accommodate the audience lured in to see the star throws things a little out of whack, but not seriously so. Room's bigger problem is that the screenplay is simply too clichéd; despite some good individual scenes, the enterprise as a whole is a little too sugar-coated. Grant is good, but not really in his element; Drake is very much in her element, but as good as she is, she simply lacks the charisma that the part requires. Still, the kids are undeniably cute, director Norman Taurog knows how to play at the heartstrings, and those looking for a good old fashioned family film will find much to reward them here.
