Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
While All Growed Up pulled the Rugrats franchise out of its arrested adolescence, Tales from the Crib is a welcome reunion with the original diapered characters who helped put Nickelodeon on the map. Angelica, of course, was born to portray the officious Queen, who is bent on being the "fairerest" one of all, while Susie Carmichael makes a charming Snow White, whom the Queen would love to eliminate. This being "a family show," however, she instead hires her off as a caretaker to the Seven Minis. Kenan Thompason is the voice of the Talking Mirror, who tries to be diplomatic ("You are the fairerest...in this room," he tells the Queen). Amanda Bynes gives a Valley Girl lilt to the voice of the babysitter who reads this fractured fairy tale to the children. The writing and animation are reliably clever, with a bit of Shrek-ian skewering of familiar storybook characters. As much fun as the Rugrats holiday specials, Tales from the Crib marks a new chapter in the babies' storied careers.
