A beautiful piece of cinematography. The emotions, stess and vitality expressed in this masterpiece will remain with the viewer long after it is seen. The story line accurately depicts a piece of Finland's history during the time World War II was raging in Europe and Asia. A review of Finland's political history from 1917 to 1941 would be helpful to understanding some of the comments about Communists and why Finnish troops were attacking the Russians. But this is not a ''political'' film. It is, above all, a story about two young Finns trying against fearful odds to do their duty then begin their lives.
