    Relive ...........Live

These guys STILL put on a show. I got to relive the old days, blasting the surround sound, while my kids thought I was going through some mid life crisis. I turned them on to a great concert.

    Suprisingly Good

For me, who has not been all that much of a rush fan, the DVD has changed that frame of mind. Never having kniwn more than thier most commonly known songs, the DVD introduced me to Rush for real for the first time. A great concert and excellent music, just what ever music lover wants. I suggest that this DVD is worth it, bu thats just my opinion. Just remember that it made a Rush fan out of me and it could do the same for you.

YOU HAVE TO SEE TO BELEVE

Rush is the ultimate rock trio. they have over come many trials and triublations from Neil's personal problems, to trying to understand what kind of guitar playing Alex is in to. But on this 2 DVD set there is also a bonus documentary where they show the problems and perks of playing in a foreign country. This dvd deserves more than a five star rating because of the mastering, the jumbo screen movies durring the songs and the pyrotechnicks after the intermission. Neils drum solo is amazying.

    Rush Reigns in Rio

I have been a Rush fan since 1981 and a true devotee and slave-to-the-cause since 1984. I have been to many a Rush live concert sitting close enough to the stage to smell their sweat. I have also enjoyed endless hours of watching their prior video releases ad nauseam until I could tell you to the second at what moment Geddy pauses to take a breath between notes. Rush's ever involving and evolving music and intriguing lyrics and subject matter have not once ceased to entertain nor energize me even after all of these years. So, suffice to say, a good review for 'Rush in Rio' from me is a certainty. But what makes this presentation so special for me is the vibrant explosions of energy eminating from both the band and audience. The crowd is bouncing, swaying, and singing fericiously and lovingly not only to the oh-so-familiar standards, but with the same energy and vitality for the newer material displayed in a huge sea of unified, joyous humanity. And you can see the band's love and appreciation for the audience displayed with every pluck of the bass, strum of the guitar, and pounding of the drums (or 'skins' as Alex jokingly refers to Neil's instrument during the opus, 'La Villa Strangiato') fueled by the audience's vibe. (The ripping renditon of 'By-Tor and the Snow Dog' alone is worth experiancing.) Disc two's documentary is just icing on the cake on what I must say is the best Rush experiance I have had to date. Thirty years has done nothing to dampen nor diminish Rush's delivery and ability to pump me with the feeling that is their namesake. Nothing can survive in a vacuum. Rush, not unlike the universe, continues to expand and grow ceaselessly in spite of the logic that gravity must make this all fold back on itself.

Worst Sound Quality I have ever heard on DVD

I was so excited about the release of this Rush in Rio 2 disk DVD concert but when I played it on my Yamaha 5.1 surround system I thought there was something wrong with my unit. I would give the DVD cover & the animated menus 5 stars, but the sound mix & quality was the worst I have ever heard on DVD. I could bearly hear Geddy Lee's voice whenever he was singing & I could not make out the alot of the songs they were playing because the sound was so muffled & the crowd were loader then they were at times. It was horrible. The picture qualty was very good but they should definately look for a new the sound crew. Disk two was a little bit better but not much better. I even tried different settings on my audio system & it was no help.

    Absolutely AWESOME!!!!!

I have only been a Rush fan for about 8 years now, but in that time I have come to the realization that they are the best band there is. I have two of their other concert videos, but this is hands down the greatest concert I've ever seen. My wife and I went to see them in Raleigh, NC and they were fantastic. The DVD is absolutely incredible with fabulous camera work and wonderful sound. I haven't looked at the extras yet, but I will be sure to do that tonight. I hope they tour again real soon. They are quite simply the best.

A must for rock concert fans!

Rush (Alex,Geddy&Neil), show why they have been in demand for almost 30 years in the concert scene. From the first beat of the first song, ( Tom Sawyer ) the energy level is strong, and controled. Great musicians that happen to find each other is a rarity, but to stay together year after year is a treat for their fans. This is a treat for all rush fans! Do yourself a favor and buy Rush in Rio, and you will become a fan too!

Great! BUT--can't find the Easter Egg of 'Anthem'

Everything was amazing! Really funny behind the scenes with the boys. The only negative: there are 2 Easter Eggs...the By Tor & Snow Dogs cartoon and rare footage of 'Anthem'. I can't find 'Anthem'!

    Rush Rules in Rio

With the conditions that they were in come show time. The three veterins and crew pulled it off very well. I saw the Vapor Trail tour in SLC. and I can tell they steped it up a little down in Rio. Big Time!

    RUSH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This DVD is a must for all RUSH fans. If you were lucky enough to catch the VAPOR TRAILS tour this DVD will take you back and let you enjoy the show again and again. The crowd was more into the show than any of the half dozen shows that I have seen. Audiences in the US should be this excited.

    FAR cooler than expected!

Great set list, INCREDIBLE performance and crowd. Have these guys really been around for 30+ years?!?! Sheesh, they rock harder than any band I've seen live in the last 10 years. The new tunes sound great, too.

Rush in Rio: Musical, Cinematic and Organizational Triumph!

Congratulations to Rush, road crew and management for the musical, cinematic and organizational triumph of 'Rush in Rio'! This is an outstanding live DVD performed and filmed in Brazil on the last night of the 70 city Vapor Trails tour. Neil, Geddy and Alex perform enthusiastically, not only as individuals, but in synchronization with each other. The playing is tight, intense, fun, graceful and powerful. Furthermore, Rush's chemistry with the huge audience (especially on songs like YYZ, Spirit of the Radio and 2112) is sure joy! A synergistic reaction catalyzes both band and audience into a musical maelstrom of bouncing bodies! Fans who purchase the DVD will be treated to songs spanning Rush's career from the very beginning to the present. Working Man, By-Tor and the Snow Dog, Cygnus X-1, the Trees, Natural Science, Limelight, New World Man, Red Sector A, Dreamline, Bravado, Driven and One Little Victory are delivered with passion and precision! The documentary, 'The Boys in Brazil' is both humorous and insightful regarding the band, their respective personalities and the tour. The road crew deserves a standing ovation for all of their hard work and perseverance with technical difficulties due to rain storms. Thankfully, the final show was performed and filmed without any rain! My wife and I were privileged to watch both discs of the Rio DVD from beginning to end (the first night it was released in the USA on 10/21/03). We enjoyed Rush's 'first ever show in Brazil' just as much as the fans in Brazil did! Honestly it is quite a challenge to make suggestions for improvements on such an excellent concert and presentation. The dynamic music, colorful lighting, excellent camera footage (multiple angles), enthusiastic fans and fascinating documentary summarize adequately and beautifully Rush as a band, and their shows in Brazil! With that in mind, I would have enjoyed viewing a live performance of Xanadu from Farewell to Kings. Yet I understand that there is only so much Neil, Geddy and Alex can pack into one show. Final thought: Evidently the Canadian power trio were able to persevere on the the Vapor Trails tour with a little help from some 'soup'! Obviously this is an inside joke (as the nature and flavor of the soup were never mentioned). But if you fellas are ever in my area, bring your wives to my place and my wife will treat your families to the best Mexican Minestrone in town! Thanks for a fantastic DVD! dw A Rush listener since 2112

See for yourself why this band is so great live!

This DVD does an amazing job at capturing the excitement of one of the best arena-rock bands of the last 25 years. The video footage is very high quality. After watching the performance straight through, I felt as though I actually attended a live show. The sound is equally impressive. One minor nuisance with the sound is that it required me to fine tune my surround sound to hear the vocals. You need a powerful center channel to make it work nicely in the 5.1 mix, otherwise the crowd noise coming from the rear L/R channels is a bit much. The stereo mix running through simulated surround sound is much more tolerable. Overall, any music fan will appreciate Rush in Rio. And to those who don't particularly like this virtuoso Canadian band, you may be in for big surprise when you see three middle aged, 'normal' guys blow away any of today's mainstream rock acts. Kudos to Rush for putting together a great package.

best live show in rock finally on video for the fans!

this will be arguably the best live concert ever released on video, competing with the recent zepplin box set. long awaited, this dvd is sure to excite just about every rock music fan with all the extras it includes, like an hour documentary of the band, as well as extra footage on and behind the stage, and a long awaited interview with the drum master himself, neil peart. i give it 5 stars already because i saw this show twice in texas 2 months earlier, and it is the same show except this particluar one was filmed in front of 60,000+ screaming fans, not 15,000-20,000. thank you rush for caring about the fans opinions in making this dvd the way we could only dream of.
