Co-written and directed by Alice Diop, this drama is based on the 2016 French court case involving Fabienne Kabou. The film unfolds through the eyes of Rama (Kayije Kagame), a pregnant novelist who attends the trial of Laurence Coly (Guslagie Malanga). The accused is being tried for the murder of her own baby, whom she left on a beach to be taken by the tide. Rama hopes to adapt her story as a retelling of Medea. But as the hearings unfold, she starts to question many things about the realities she shares with Laurence; the Senegalese immigrant experience, societal pressures, and motherhood.
