When I was younger, Samantha was my favorite American girl. I read all the books and saved up enough money to buy the doll. Even though I'm older now, I wanted to see what the move was like. I think they combined the 6 books well, that must have been a challenge. All in all, they were faithful to the story, but willing to add and subtract from it to adapt it to film. All my little sisters liked it, and even my brother (who is at the girls-are-gross age) thought it was interesting. My Mom liked it because it was a clean family film that enertained all the kids! I think it is a good movie and a faithful adaption of the books that family will enjoy.
This is one of those movies that will become a classic holiday tradition. The movie captures the true feeling of Christmas and transports you to the early 19th century setting. Fabulous costuming and sets. Excellent acting by all. A must have.
I've been an avid collector and fan of the American Girl Dolls since I was a child. Though I never owned the Samantha doll, I was eager to see the first American Girl movie and it didn't disappoint! The actors including AnnaSophia Robb who plays Samantha and Mia Farrow as Grandmary were truly authentic. Uncle Gard, Nellie, and Cornelia were characters that were engaging and memorable. This is the perfect movie to watch with your little girl during the holiday season!
This movie was very cute. I did find that it was off from the books, but it was a movie that left me happy and wishing for Christmas to come quickly. My Samantha doll watched, too!
This movie is a must get for children. It has a great message behind it. I am new to the American girl scene as my children are entering school. They both loved it, including my husband.
I like this movie, but I don't think it's outstanding. Annasophia Robb is a good actress and all, I just don't think she was right for sam. Maybe the Samantha movie isn't that great, but I hope that the new Felicity movie will be better.
I liked the Samantha movie a lot!!! It was a very good movie. My friends and I, both LOVE American Girls. My favorite Americans Girls are Samantha,Elizabeth, Kit, and Molly. But I also like all the others!
I love the American Girl stuff. They're the best things ever made!
I loved this movie! Annasophia Robb is such a great actress!
We bought this for our two grand daughters and they absolutely love it and even made Grandmother sit down and watch it with them. We'll be buying some of the other DVDs that are on the same theme of American girl (they also love the American Girl books).
