Overview

Genre specialists Mondo Macabro strike ghoulish gold once again with a feature-packed release of the little-seen nunsploitation classic Satanico Pandemonium. In offering a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen transfer taken from the original negative, it's obvious that Mondo Macabro has gone to great lengths to bring this sordid tale of convent lust to home video. Audio is offered in Spanish-language Dolby Digital Stereo with optional English subtitles. Of course, anyone familiar with Mondo Macabro's previous releases is well aware that the exploitation powerhouse is never content in just getting rarely seen movies released on DVD, and their release of Satanico Pandemonium continues to pay testament to their quality-minded tradition with some truly informative and involved extras. A featurette entitled "The Devil Went Down to Mexico" finds screenwriter Adolfo Martinez Solares discussing both his career in film as well as his experience working alongside his father, Gilberto Martinez Solares, the director of Satanico Pandemonium. The additional featurette "The House of the Writhing Nun" offers a detailed interview with Redemption Video founder Nigel Wingrove, whose tireless efforts resulted in the release of many obscure exploitation classics to home video since the label was founded in 1982. Background notes on both the director and nunsploitation cinema put the film in context for newcomers to the genre, with Mexican lobby cards, Italian release artwork, and a filmography on Mexican nunsploitation cinema serving to make even the most novice newcomer an expert on the subject. As always, previews for other Mondo Macabro titles are also included.
