In the spirit of the two Matrix sequels, Scary Movie 3 was shot back-to-back with Scary Movie 4. Queen Latifah, Charlie Sheen, and Eddie Griffin also star.

The Wayans brothers started this series of fright-film spoofs, but the third Scary Movie is better than the first two combined, thanks to the formidable new team behind the camera. Scary Movie 3 director David Zucker -- who, together with his brother Jerry and their partner Jim Abrahams, practically invented the spoof genre with 1980's Airplane -- worked here with writer Pat Proft, his collaborator from the Naked Gun movies. Zucker tones down the sex-and-drug jokes and relies on tighter scripting, better pacing, and sharper parody to distinguish this entry. Easily recognizable targets of good-natured ridicule include The Ring, Signs, Independence Day, The Matrix,, and even Eminem's 8 Mile. As the story opens, TV reporter Cindy Campbell (series veteran Anna Faris) investigates a number of deaths tied to the viewing of a bizarre videotape, which may have some connection to the crop circles that have appeared in former clergyman Tom Logan’s cornfields. The gags fly fast and furious, and the cast members go through their paces with the goofy, deadpan charm typical of characters in ZAZ-ian spoofs. Helping in this regard is the casting of Charlie Sheen, a veteran of Abrahams and Proft’s Hot Shots movies, as Logan. There's no shortage of cameos, either: Pamela Anderson and Jenny McCarthy figure in yet another variation on the Scream telephone-call opening; Zucker regular Leslie Nielsen pops up as an addle-brained U.S. president, and hip-hop luminaries Queen Latifah, Ja Rule, Method Man, and Master P contribute plenty of raucous humor to the proceedings. A fourth Scary Movie -- also helmed by Zucker and co-scripted by Proft -- is in development, but it'll have to be really special to top this rib-tickling, fast-moving farce.

The third in the Scary Movie franchise, this film is little more than a mediocre episode of Saturday Night Live. Indeed, the focus on certain "scary" movies -- like 8 Mile and The Matrix -- are noticeably lackluster when compared to the mini-parodies SNL alumni Mike Myers and Will Ferrell produced for the annual MTV Movie Awards with much greater success. That said, despite the abundance of awkward pop-culture references (it's doubtful that this movie's target audience will catch Leslie Nielsen's small homage to 1980's Airplane!), done-to-death jokes, and lack of any true laugh-out-loud moments, Scary Movie 3 does deliver a joyful, equal-opportunity disrespect for all things politically correct, as well as several well-aimed jabs at modern news media outlets. Clad in cartoonish Catholic school regalia, professional bombshells Pam Anderson and Jenny McCarthy offer a surprisingly self-aware send-up of The Ring's ill-fated video watchers, thus setting the premise for the rest of the movie: the hapless broadcast news journalist Cindy Campbell's (Scary Movie veteran Anna Faris) effort to bring a recent onslaught of crop circles to the forefront of her sex-obsessed station, all the while protecting her friends and family from watching the killer tape. As fate would have it, the crop circles only become the top story when her ratings-hungry television network airs 24-hour footage of the video, in doing so causing an alien race to die off in droves after viewing it via radio waves in space. Certainly, the story is absurd enough to make a funny movie, but the overly heavy reliance on slapstick and bland performances all around keep Scary Movie 3 from reaching its potential. Charlie Sheen's character doesn't so much resemble Mel Gibson's role in Signs as it proves virtually indiscernible from his performance as the angst-ridden Topper Harley in Hot Shots! In the same vein, Simon Rex's boring take on Eminem's rise to stardom is given an inexplicable amount of screen time while Leslie Nielsen, Regina Hall, Eddie Griffin, and Queen Latifah are grossly underutilized. In short, Scary Movie 3 isn't as good as the original, nor is it as bad as Scary Movie 2 or Not Another Teen Movie, a notable companion in over-the-top genre spoofs gone wrong -- perhaps Scary Movie 4 will get it right.

    Totally Funny!

    This is by far the best Scary Movie of all. It is SO funny!!! Every scene has something to laugh at. Non of the others are as good as the third

    Better Than The Other Two Combined

    We finally got back to basics in Scary Movie 3 with David Zucker directing, you know the usual sex jokes and racial cliches. Good stuff in convergence with Michael Jackson, lest us forget!

    HILARIOUS!

    The movie was so funny! Like when she went to the lighthouse and just twisted that thing-so funny and stupid. Pamela and Jenny at the beginning were funny. The video was funny, like when Queen Latifah attacked the mom. The boy getting hit was funny and so was the rap part where he had his hood like a kkk. VERY FUNNY!

    Love this MOVIE!

    This movie is nothing short of amazing. This is my new favorite movie. I love when George, the aspiring white rapper, tries to give the 611 to Brenda and Cindy while making up stupid rhyming words. It's hilarious. You gotta see it to believe it! Pick up the movie today, y'all! LOL! Best movie ever made!

    I Agree with Thomas Lewis....terrible!!!!!!!!!!!

    This is by far and away the most sophomoric and pathetic movie of the year. it did nothing more than attempt to rehash old sight gags. I expected much better from this team, but i ended up being embarrassed for leslie nielson, and the rest of this crew. don't waste your time or money on this one. I rated it 1 star, only because there was nothing lower.

    Awful, terrible, what happened?

    It seems that the team of Zucker and Nielsen have lost their way. I found the first two movies in this series to be pretty amusing(not classics, but funny). I had high hopes for this one despite the departure of the Wayans brothers. I really thought the comedy team that produced Airplane and the Naked Gun series would be able to build on this franchise. I was dead wrong. The jokes were bad, predictable, and just plain tired. I think this team has lost all concept of comedy. Timing is everything when doing this kind of humor. You have to play it straight and be convincing to earn the laughs. Everything in this movie seems contrived and forced to the point of serious abdominal pain. More than anything else, I just feel sorry for the few talented performers who were unable to escape their contracts. Eddie Griffin and Leslie Nielsen have shown that they can be very funny, but this movie shows that they can be very apathetic as well. I hated this movie, do not pay to see it. You have been warned.

    Scary Movie is right!

    I saw this movie in theaters a wk after it was released and I'm soo glad that I didn't have to pay for it b/c I would've been seriously disappointed. Even though the first two were good that doesn't mean that this one was. People do NOT waste your money on this movie! It sucked and I absolutely wouldn't recommend this movie to anyone! Critics said Gigli was bad, well this movie is worse! Never again!

    Great Movie!

    This movie rocked! I saw it with my friend and we both think it was the best of the Scary Movie flicks. The scenes were hilarious, and knowing that this movie's playing off real 'scary movies' made it even better.
