Overview

Pull a box of Captain Crunch from the cabinet, don some pajamas and pop these discs into the DVD player for a trip back in time to those lazy Saturday mornings of our youth. This huge, double-disc set is crammed with almost every three-minute animated episode of Schoolhouse Rock -- that's 52 toe-tapping, tune-jingling ditties teaching young minds the power of conjunctions, the principles of Congress and the beauty of adverbs. From the earliest cartoon short in 1973 through some newer renditions in the early 1990s, this DVD set contains them all in their full form, but with extraordinary sound and color. Delivered in Dolby 2.0 sound, the songs blast from the speakers with crisp tones never quite experienced on television nearly 30 years ago. One negative: Some of the digital transfers aren't top quality. Every episode is here, from the much-loved "Conjunction Junction" to "The Shot Heard 'Round the World" to "My Hero Zero" to "Good Eleven." One caution: the catchy jingles will play over and over again in your head. You might even find yourself in a crowded elevator, humming, "Interplanet Janet she's a galaxy girl, a solar system miss from a future world." Some of the edition's highlights include the all-new song "I'm Gonna Send Your Vote to College," the top 20 Countdown, a three-song set of "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips" and the long-lost "Weather Show." The entire four-hour rockfest is nothing shy of brilliant based on the content and the completeness of the collection. This set is a must-own for anyone with children or anyone who was once a child. At the very least, the songs can trigger a relapse into good grammar, especially after watching "Lolly, Lolly, Lolly Get Your Adverbs Here."

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
This indispensable two-volume set is a nostalgic blast from the past, reviving for the DVD generation the Emmy Award-winning Schoolhouse Rock that aired Saturday mornings on ABC from 1973 to 1985. Its irresistible three-minute ditties introduced the basic concepts of grammar, science, math, and history. Songs such as "Three Is a Magic Number," "Conjunction Junction, What's Your Function," and "I Am a Bill" (which was affectionately spoofed on The Simpsons) are era-defining classics poised for discovery by a new generation. This collection contains all 46 Schoolhouse Rock songs, including the long-lost, legally entangled "The Weather Song," and a new song no doubt inspired by the 2000 Presidential election, "I'm Gonna Send Your Vote to College." Other archival treasures include four "Scooter Computer and Mr. Chips" songs and the Nike commercial set to "Three is a Magic Number." A tad dated, perhaps, but it's reassuring to know that after all these years, Schoolhouse still rocks!

    School House Rock ROCKS!

This video is an excellent tool for the classroom. We all know that it's easier to learn information when it's put to music. These individual lessons create a friendly learning atmosphere for students to learn important lessons in all core areas. I would highly recommend it to every educator, especially in the elementary levels. It is also great review for middle school and high school students.

    Great for the Classroom

I use the tunes to re-inforce my lessons. It's also fun to just hand over the the remote and let the students pick the subject. After humming a few bars of "Lolly, Lolly get your adverbs here.." or "Conjunction Junction, what's your function..." they start to remember and apply what they've learned.

    Schoolhouse Rock rocks!

Just received this in the mail and, it's just as good as I remember it was when I was a kid. My eight-year old is eating this UP!!! I love that he can watch these songs/cartoons over and over again and learn at the same time!

    An old favorite

My granddaughter is only 14 months, so she's only really interested in dancing to the music but I know it will be a perfect learning tool. Schoolhouse Rock helped me and my children learn in a fun and engaging way. Well into my 40's, I still remember all the words to the different songs! That's not just memorization, it's learning.

Schoolhouse Rock DVD - Very Educational

Since we seem to be in the car a lot, I usually have my twin 4 year olds watch educational DVDs while we are out. I bought the Schoolhouse Rock DVD recently and it is amazing how much they have picked up already from watching it.

    Buyer Beware

Our purchased this DVD for my school and it will not play properly in any of our classrooms. When trying to play on a laptop, the player requests changing a region code which leads me to believe this is not a product of the United States. I'm very disappointed to find that you cannot trust products sold by this company.

    Old School Education

I remember getting up on Saturday mornings and wondering which one of the School House Rock teachings was going to role. This brings back great memories yet, I didn't really realize that would use these rhymes my entire life. I bought 2 DVDs, one for my grand-daughter and one for me. There are teachings on the DVD that are either new or I don't remember. I would recommend this DVD to be played in every household that has children.

    GREAT for teachers!!!

I bought this DVD specifically to use in my classroom. All of the segments are great, but the history and government/econ portions are what I was after. They are a great way to introduce a topic to my students in an entertaining way and half the time I find them singing the songs to themselves as a study tool later on. As a teacher, I love it when I can find something that makes my job a little easier and fun.

    Still great, 30 years later

This collection is great. I was really surprised just how much was included with this set. As a teacher, this is a great way to engage kids and also get them to learn a thing or two, of course with some reinforcing. I knew Schoolhouse had great content for grammar and history, but I didn't know it also has math content. This set also has a feature where you can build a play list of just the items you want to show, or you can play them all and enjoy! This collection is definitely worth the money, I would highly recommend it to anyone considering this purchase.

    School House Rock

This has all the classic songs including "I'm only a Bill; Conjunction, Junction What's Your Function?" The songs were great in the 70's. They are still good in 2010 as kids still love them and can learn from them. The Multiplication Rock Series with "Three is a Magic Number" is a classic also. This song helped every kid in the 70's memorize the "Preamble" to the Constitution. "Lolly Lolly Lolly Get Your Adverbs here" helped kids when they got to diagraming sentences. "A Noun is a Person Place or Thing" also was fun and helped kids learn grammar. We have a copy of this DVD and as parents we enjoy it as much as our kids.

    Schoolhouse Rock Rocks!

This was as great as I remembered it. Great for children up to age 10-12. It's an easy way for them to remember math, great for the explanation of grammar... I only wish that there were a canadian version for the political side but there is enough similarity and prompts them to ask questions about the differences with our politics.
The only thing that I found came close to this teaching is "The Electric Company".
I have many of mothers which are friends wanting to go out and buy it after seeing their children watch it here.

One of the best ways to learn

These songs realy teach. The creaters wanted to find a way to use music to teach school subjects. They really succeeded with this series. Having all the sings on one DVD can make this a handy tool for parents and teachers.
