Overview

Galapagos is a scientist's paradise, with its isolated location and amazing variety of wildlife. Host Alan Alda journeys to this wilderness area to find out what researchers are looking for. Scientific American Frontiers: Voyage to the Galapagos finds one of the animals that has become a symbol for the islands -- the enormous Galapagos giant tortoise. The archipelago is home to iguanas, who are in the process of recovering from El Niño's effects. The program also includes a segment on finches, whose range of beak formation is a highlight of Darwin's famous work on evolution.
