I think my 5-star rating makes my answer obvious - this one! You can tell by watching this movie, that the director obviously read and understood Sense and Sensibility. There are important family dynamics that the other two versions don't cover as well. This movie has a great cast - Emma Thompson, Kate Winsley, Hugh Grant, and Alan Rickman. It's also true to the spirit of teh novel. What I like best, perhaps, is that while remaining very faithful to the book, it managed a good time and is easily enjoyed by non-JaneAusten fans. My parents loved it.
My favorite scene: The proposal! It was beautiful - I cried a whole lot. LOL. A definate recommend, so don't waste any more time. Go watch it!
I can appreciate that it took Emma Thompson so long to get this movie ready. I enjoyed everything about it - especially the scenery - but the actors were "just right" for each character - the dialog - the costumes - everything !!- I have seen it several times before but just had to have this edition.
This is the best book-to-movie adaptation I have ever seen. It kept the movie length time instead of the 6-hour Pride and Prejudice dished out, was on the nose about all of the characters and plot. It was as if Jane Austen herself had written the script! Absolutely marvelous!
Really enjoy watching this for the umpteenth time now that I own it. Love the cast of characters, especially Alan Rickman and Emma Thompson. Alan really puts himself into the part of Colonel Brandon, and Emma really makes Elinor come alive. The other cast members are also quite talented, and do well in their roles. Dialog was good, in keeping with the time frame of the original book. Jane Austen really put out some good books that have been made into some great movies.
This is a great movie, especially for Jane Austen fans since the performances really bring out the nuances of feeling for each character.
''Outstanding'' is the word that comes to mind when I think of Emma Thompson's adaptation of Jane Austen's classic novel. Thompson's faithful rendering of the characters and the period reflect her great love for this timeless story. She has wonderfully captured the wit and poignancy that make Austen's work both enduring and endearing to its readers. The parlor scene, when an unsuspecting and ardent Edward interrupts Elinor and Lucy's earnest conversation about him, always makes me chuckle; the awkwardness felt by all is so palpable, and so wonderfully portrayed. And then, when clueless Marianne happens upon the scene! What wonderfully understated comedy! This movie is well worth adding to any Austen fan's video library.
Smart movie, smart script and a lovely performance by Emma Thompson. I also loved Alan Rickman-- but when is he ever NOT great?
This is a wonderful adaption of Jane Austin's book. I recomend it to anyone!
This is a great romantic movie with a good ending. At times it as sad and at times it is funny. It is a well done movie and the actors all fit the parts!!! You will definately enjoy this!
This movie is absolutely riveting, beautifully acted, directed and photographed. This movie is for men and women. From start to finish you will be moved by the actors and pull for the characters and their situations.
I still remember the first time I saw this movie: I was still crying fifteen minutes after it was over! I absolutly adore this movie and think it's a wonderful adaption of the book. (which is also wonderful and recommended by me) Do yourself a favor and sit down and watch this movie. My friends and I always have the best time when we see it.
This is one of the best movies I have ever seen. This is not just your common love-story this one has class and is worth every minute of your time. The book is harder to handle, but is also worth your time.
I loved this movie! Terrific acting, beautiful scenery, altogether great period piece! My only problem with it is... not NEARLY enough Colonel Brandon! Alan Rickman steals yet another movie! What a man!
I did not like this movie........I LOVED it!!!!!!!!! Wonderfull acting, funny, romantic, emotional, what else could you want? I never get tired of watching it, you have got to see this!
i may be young and still a teenager but i love all things jane austen. I believe that this movie was close enough to the book not to upset those who have read it and i believe all the cast did a magnificent job playing thier role.
I watched the movie when I was a teenager, for the first time and saw it recently, again. Jane Austen is an awesome writer, and Emma Thompson,a great actress! Kate Winslet is charming too. A captivating movie,a must see for folks who prefer for a romantic gateaways.....
