I was extremely skeptical heading into this version, because the 1995 adaptation happens to be in my top 5 films of all time. Needless to say, it wasn't going to be easy to impress me. This version was absolutely wonderful! The scenery and score were breathtaking, and the storyline was more faithful to the book than other versions have been. The actors also delivered amazing performances. Hattie Morahan "Elinor" particularly impressed me-- she was the *perfect* Elinor and will blow you away in the second half of the film! BBC got it right with this version!

It is very well done and very enjoyable, even if your not a big Jane Austen buff.

I was a little skeptical when I bought this movie. It was after I saw another Jane Austen's excellent BBC Production - "Pride and Prejudice", casting Colin Firth. I've selected S&S because I noticed the screenplay was adapted by the same Andrew Davies, I love his old stylish lines! And "Sense & Sensibility" was another delish, great actors. :) I watched it over & over for many days.

This BBC version is exactly true to the book. I love it because it is like watching the book play out before my very eyes. All the actors played their parts exactly as I pictured the characters to be.

As with all of the BBC's reproductions of Jane Austen's work, this marks the spot. Many adaptations fall short of actualizing the story and characters, but in this version of Sense and Sensibility the cast, director, and writers come very close to those points. This is by far the best film version of the book I have seen.

After watching this and the 1995 version, I think it's about time I give the book a read. Well all of Jane Austen's books I mean. Everyone here did a good job with their roles, especially Elinor and Brandon (in both versions). The music along with the settings is great. Recommend this and the 1995 version and of course the book by Jane Austen.

My daughter who is 14 and a huge Austen fan really gets into this movie. There is one charachter she alwasy wants to sit down and have a talking to, the sister-in-law of all the Dashwood Girls. The actors are very engaging and perfect for the roles. this is the best version of Sense & Sensibility out there. One of the best Austen movies we've ever seen.

I liked this version better than the 1995 one. It seemed more genuine. The costume and set designs were wonderful. I felt more in touch with the characters portrayed. Loved it!

This version is excellent! The acting and the scenes are great. The script is faithful to the book. I have only seen the theatrical version from 1995 by Ang Lee. This TV version is even better!

This version of Sense and Sensibility is overall true to the story and both cast and filmed well. I find that with this story in film I often do not care about, or dislike, the characters, but this catches the mood and spirit of the original.

If I could give this adaptation 0 stars, I would. Elinor showed her feelings too easily, Edward wasn't exceedingly awkward, Fanny wasn't malicious enough, they totally boched the final scene with Willoghby, Marianne got over Willoughby's leaving too quickly, and beginning an Austen adaptation with a seduction scene just killed it. If you plan to see a decent adaptation of this novel, see the film with Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman, Kate Winslet and Hugh Grant. Though it doesn't include all of the details mentioned in the novel, Emma Thompson captured Austen's novel in an extremely beautiful way. Watch that. DO NOT WATCH THIS IF YOU DON'T WANT TO TEAR YOUR HAIR OUT!!!!!!!!!!

We knew Marianne had it but finally a version of Sense and Sensibility that fully shows you Elinor's private sensual side. And the opening scene with the suggestions of Willoughby seduction of Eliza really gave you an insite into this character other versions of this movie lacked.

I saw this on PBS a few weeks ago and was not impressed. The entire cast completely lacks chemistry. If you want to watch Sense and Sensibility I would recommend the version Emma Thompson, Kate Winslet, and Hugh Grant instead.

The story and acting is good. Mariann and Elinor were good. The romance between Marianne and Willouhby was also good. What about Elinor? Her surpressed feelings were barely acknowledged - the romance between her and Edward Ferrars was dry and unfeeling. Overall, it was diappointing.

I loved this version of Sense and Sensibility. It was the best version of any Jane Austin I have ever seen. The acting was great. I know that I have seen it three or four times since this movie came out on PBS. I recommend it to everyone who enjoys the work of Jane Austin.

I'm a big Jane Austen fan, and so I like to watch all the adaptations. I've seen all three versions of S&S - this one is good. It is, and it's definately worth watching. The opening scene does offer some originality, but as far as the movie is on a whole, it more of a "been there, done that." Sense and Sensibility with Emma Thompson is the best one ever - the last scene is unbeatable, and the movie on a whole is impossible to top! Therefore, it's kind of unfair to compare the two. This version is good, accurate, and enjoyable, but is hasn't got the depth that the other one has. Nevertheless, this version is worth watching AND buying.
