I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Collector's Set, I've watched all of them

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this Collector's Set, I've watched all of them over and over for years-- I still do not tire from seeing them. They are classic adaptations from the best...and my preferred versions of S&S and Persuasion....you are missing out if you haven't seen them

    The Best & Not So

I have three versions of S & S and this is by far the best of them, more detailed so that the motivations of the characters is more understandable....one version totally eliminated Margaret! Each of the actors were perfect for their roles, especially Margaret McTeer and David Morrissey is as good a Colonel Brandon as Alan Rickman. The costumes and the settings, especially the cottage, were wonderful.
As far as Persuasion: I always thought nobody could portray Captain Wentworth better than Ciarian Hinds, but was I ever wrong! Rupert Penry-Jones, is a different Captain Wentworth; softer and just as sexy. Did not much care for Sally Hawkins' Anne, I thought she was rather too plain and retiring to have ignited such passion.
Miss Austen Regrets was a terrible waste of my time. While it does give a little insight (very little) into Jane Austen's life, it was too plodding and fanciful, but the costumes were nice.

    good value

This is a great addition to your dvd collection, both films are great, though I enjoyed Persuasion more...but then, I like Persuasion, the novel more as well.

Persuasion is the story of Anne Eliott, a 27 year old woman, who is unmarried. She had once been engaged but broke it off because of her family and friends` objection. Now, many years later she meets again the man she was unable to forget, who had since become rich, and obviously treats Anne with indifference. Their encounter makes Anne realize how she had not been able to love anyone else and...well, there are surprises, but come on, this is a Jane Austen novel.
It is my favourite novel by Austen, after Pride and Prejudice, of course. The characters are more mature here, and have lost more.
Both Rupert Penry-Jones and Sally Hawkins are great actors, and I especially liked Hawkins` rendering of the character. She turns Anne Elliot into essentially a modern woman, with whom it is easy to symphatize.

Sense and Sensibility is the story of two sisters of very different character and approach to love, and how their choices shape their lives and make them rethink and reevaluate their beliefs. Great cast.

Both movies are shot beautifully, the music is great and the actors are superb. I never quite got the hang of Sense and Sensibility though...

    Sense & Sensibility/ Persuasion

FABULOUS MOVIE! Favorite is Persuasion. Sense & Sensibility is good, better then the Hollywood version. Though I like that one too. BBC Movies tend to put more substance into thier characters. These are MUST SEE MOVIES!
