Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Monsters are mean, scary, ugly, icky, terrible creatures. That's what witch Gilda the Great (Caroline Rhea) thinks. But Gilda the Great has never met Elmo, Telly, and Zoe! The trio have arrived from Sesame Street with Mumford the Magician to attend her Halloween party, complete with "magical costumes, magical games, and magical finger foods." But a funny thing happens on the way to Gilda's: Mumford experiences an equipment malfunction with his wand. Elmo and company take unexpected detours to a pumpkin patch, where they learn about carving and painting pumpkins; a farm, where create their own scarecrows; and an apple orchard, where they see how applesauce is made. Live-action footage presents children engaging in these and other Halloween and autumn activities. And Gilda learns that "Monsters don't have to be scary." This 30-minute program is an imaginative way to make Halloween a real treat for preschoolers.

This is a very cute story and my granddaughter loves it! Not only do you have the cute muppets but there are segments showing a scarecrows being made (not scary at all), little kids showing Big Bird a variety of vegetables, and apple-picking with kids.

My daughter loves Elmo and out of all the Elmo DVD's we own, this one is definitely a favorite. Mommy even enjoys it!

This is a great video to watch. We borrowed it from the library and I plan on purchasing it soon. It teaches about the rituals of Halloween - costumes, parties, pumpkins, a trip to an apple cider factory - fun stuff for kids. I only gave it 4 stars because it has a really catchy song - Monsters Are Scary - that is very cute and very memorable. The song they use to teach kids that once you get to know the monsters (Elmo, Zoe, Telly) and find out they are actually really nice and not scary at all, is not that remarkable (nor memorable). My 2 year old was singing "monsters are scary" after the video was over, because the song is so catchy. I don't think he'd even thought of monsters as being scary before seeing this, so this is probably better for slightly older children. I explained to him that Elmo and Cookie Monster, his two favorites, aren't scary at all, they're really nice. Now he tells me that monsters aren't scary.
