The disc's only extra is an additional chapter of fire safety tips. In short, a rather basic package, but well-presented, and given how often may children's videos get played in a household, the less-fragile nature of the DVD is doubtless advantage enough to make it a more appealing purchase than the VHS version.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
Elmo's "super-scrumptious lunch" at Hooper's Store is interrupted by a fire, leaving the little red guy so shaken and scared that he refuses to enter Hooper's again. But thanks to Captain Bill Walsh and members of the New York City Fire Department, Elmo learns about fire safety ("get low and go") and the sometimes scary-looking equipment that firefighters use, and he gets to tour an actual firehouse. "Firefighters may look a little scary," Elmo is consoled, "but they're there to help you and take care of you." Musical and animated segments, including a bonus installment of "Elmo's World," further reinforce the basics of fire safety and laud firefighters for their everyday heroics. This reassuring program is one of Elmo's finest half-hours.

A Flaming Success in Our House

Our 2 yr old son loves Elmo and firefighters so this was a no brainer. There is lots to entertain and use as jumping off points for discussion, although he was nervous at first about the openning scenes where Elmo is frightened by the fire at Hoopers and doesn't want to go back inside for lunch. This passed when we had watched the show together a few times and he realized everything would be ok in the end.

This was an easier watch for his age than the Elmo Visits the Doctor, which is still a bit over his head. Elmo's Happy Holidays was spot on this last holiday season with him and our 4.5 year old and it covers several holiday traditions, not just Christmas.
