Unhappy in his new surroundings, Big Bird attempts to hitchhike back home to Sesame Street. Over the course of his journey he meets a number of odd and charming characters, in the form of cameos by Chevy Chase, Sandra Bernhard, Waylon Jennings, Dave Thomas and John Candy. A delightful movie about friendship and family with most of the classic Sesame Street cast and some memorable songs and scenes (my personal favorite being Oscar and Maria's dinner at the Don't Drop Inn, a Grouch restaurant). The film has lots of the double-layered humor classic SS was famous for, including Chevy Chase as an evening news anchor and a hilarious reference to "North by Northwest." Loses a star not for the movie, but for the DVD, which is in pan & scan (even though the trailer is in widescreen).
When I was about 3 I was crazy about this movie. I drove my parents nuts because I watched it everyday. And I am so glad that I am able to buy this movie for my son.
When I was little.. Follow that Bird was one of my favorite movies... we taped it off the tv and watched it over and over again until the tape wore out, then one Chanukah my mom bought us an actual copy.... we watched it over and over until that video too wore out... I still have the songs stuck in my head. I highly reccommend it for anyone with preschool-elementary school aged kids.. even college students who are feeling a little nostalgic... it's a definate personal favorite!
I bought this movie for my daughter, because I remember always having my mom check this movie out at the library when I was little. The first time we sat and watched it together, I found myself telling her to be quiet, because I was so into it...oh the memories. Donny and Marie Dodo...haha, now I get the joke. As you can see, the movie is great for all! My daughter is not quite two and she can sink the entire Grouch Anthem at the beginning.
This movie has been Ashley's favority for 17 years. Unfortunately the video tape didn't last. Thankfully we can give her a new one on DVD. It should be a great surprise to bring back those memories of us singing along to all the great songs 'ease on down the road' was a favorite! Thanks Sesame Street
i think i'll order this, my oldest (17) watched it over and over. i think my new little guy would probably enjoy it. (12 months) doesnt watch much tv now. i remember singing the songs and the whole bit.
Im 22 years old and I have to say Follow That Bird is a heartwarming movie for kids an adults to love I know there's rumors about Sesame Street People are saying how cookie monster eats to many cookies and Oscar is always in a bad mood or how Big bird can only see Snuffy but come on give Pbs a break kids have a right to like Sesame street Its alot better than those bad shows like south park I mean people can say whatever they want but I still like this movie and I'm in my 20's Follow that Bird is the best!!!
I remember seeing this movie in the the theater with my Mom and sister. I now own the DVD for myself...and for my 16 month old son. He really gets into the songs and I still love the story and music too. I highly recommend owning this wonderful movie.
Okay so im 23 years old and i still watch this movie infact Follow That Bird was a childhood movie for me This film all kids will love and enjoy and even adults too
"Follow That Bird" represents something of a last hurrah for the 'old-school' era of "Sesame Street" -- most of the core group of human residents from the 1970s and 80s make appearances, and all the Muppets are performed by their original performers, including the late Jim Henson and Richard Hunt. And of course, there was no Elmo at this point (though the puppet that would eventually become Elmo appears in a window in the crowd scene at the end of the film). The story is relatively straightforward: Big Bird is relocated to Oceanview, Illinois by do-gooding social worker Miss Finch (Sally Kellerman), so he can live with a bird family, the Dodos. Unhappy in his new home and missing his friends from Sesame Street, Big Bird runs away in the middle of the night, and it becomes a race to see who will get him first: the Sesame Street gang, or Miss Finch. Thrown into the mix are the Sleaze Brothers (Dave Thomas and Joe Flaherty), a pair of carnival-running con men who want to kidnap Big Bird so they'll have a hot act for their run-down funfair. As with "Sesame Street" the show, the film works on multiple levels, assuring that both kids and parents will be entertained. There's various celebrity (circa 1985) guest appearances, including Chevy Chase, John Candy, and Waylon Jennings. There's also a great homage to "North by Northwest." Be sure to watch for Oscar and Maria's dinner at the Don't Drop Inn, a grouch diner where they toss the salad... literally.
Great movie for kids with GREAT music to go along...My favorite kids movie.
its a story about the most sweetest bird ever big bird that is! i am 18 now it made me cry the first time i watched it and i own the movie now and i still cry at the song im so blue where he sings and is painted blue and called the blue bird of happiness that song always made me sad and it still does but the story still enchants my heart and i hope it does or did for you if you havent seen this yet follow big bird on a journy where he reolises where his true home is sesame street and encourage him on his journy home with a lot of heart and soul he is eight feet what more can you ask for? =]
This movie is my gf's favorite movie. Two days back, she called me and said with sooo much of excitement that she found her favorite movie on this website. I could see how happy she was from the way she said it. No surprise I bought her the video the same day.
my sister is the biggest fan of this movie.
