Overview

Big Bird invites all the Sesame Street animals to participate in a sing-along. But things a get a little crazy when each of the animals has a favorite song. After much naying, roaring, and mooing over who gets to pick the songs, the animals perform "Old MacDonald Had a Farm," "Cow Dog Song," "Baa Baa Bamba," "Starfish," "Insects in Your Neighborhood," "I'm an Aardvark," "Pigs' Love Song," "Proud to Be a Cow," "We Are All Earthlings," "Kids," "Egg Chicken," and "Cluck Around the Clock." Children probably won't recognize most of the songs, but this video will keep them singing, dancing, and shaking all about. Muppet singing segments are interspersed with live nature footage. The cow-herding clip is wonderful. Highly recommended for ages one to five.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
If you’re in the "moo-ed" for some of Sesame Street’s best critter songs, Sing, Hoot & Howl should bring out the animal in you. Big Bird leads a diverse menagerie of domestic, farm, and wild animals as they sing this meeting of the Sing, Hoot & Howl Club to order, or, to be more accurate, disorder. In time-honored Sesame tradition, the songs range from silly ("Baa Baa Bamba") and sweet ("Starfish") to educational ("Insects in Your Neighborhood"). Some sing an animal's praises and promote self-esteem ("Pigs Love Song," "Proud to Be a Cow"), and others are all about inclusion ("We Are All Earthlings"). A real hoot, this 30-minute collection is sure to gallop by.

My 2 year old loves 4 songs on the dvd. It's not the best dvd from Sesame Street, but the songs that he loves are really funny and catchy. There's a song based on La Bamba that adults will laugh along with, as well as "Proud to be a Cow". He also loves "We are all Earthlings" and a song Ernie sins with insects. Three songs are set to really dated video. If you want a great video go with "What's the name of That Song.

Sing, Hoot and Howl is classic Sesame Street, educational and enjoyable. I remembered all the songs fondly from my childhood and I think it's still entertaining for kids today. Big Bird and friends meet together to sing their favorite animal songs. As a Sesame Street fan from way back, I remember not only listening to these songs, but learning from them. I learned about the kinds of jobs dogs can do and what animal babies are called ("Cows have calves and I bet you didn't know that elephants have calves too.") This show also encourages pride in one's self ("Proud to be a cow") and getting along with each other despite differences ("We Are All Earthlings.") It's great that these Sesame Street DVDs are being reissued now. I definitely recommend "Sing, Hoot and Howl" for kids and their parents to make Muppet Memories together.
