Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Ed Hulse
HBO's groundbreaking series came to a close with the eight 2003-4 episodes collected in this three-disc box set, and it definitely went out with a bang rather than a whimper. Sex and the City concluded with its four major characters facing their respective destinies, but not without difficulty. A breast-cancer scare forces Samantha Kim Cattrall in "Catch-38" to reevaluate her life, if only temporarily. In "Out of the Frying Pan," and "The...

In "Out of the Frying Pan," and "The Cold War," Carrie Sarah Jessica Parker finds herself growing closer to a Russian artist Mikhail Baryshnikov: a flippant, arrogant man who's been around the block, he nonetheless manages to captivate the romance-loving writer. Charlotte Kristin Davis continues to focus on recovering from the loss of her baby in "Let There Be Light," and Miranda Cynthia Nixon settles down with Steve David Eigenberg in "The Ick Factor," unaware that more changes await her. The final eight episodes of the series nostalgically revisit earlier situations and characters, building to the inevitable finale, "An American Girl in Paris" -- a sensational two-parter that left the show's fans breathless and more than a little sad the series had ended. The sitcom that changed sitcoms forever, Sex and the City didn't wear out its welcome -- in fact, it went out on something of a creative high. The eight shows included in this box are all top-notch; a more fitting ending to the girls' six-year odyssey could hardly have been imagined.

    Fabulous

This is the most fabulous series ever created. I love sex and the city!! Get all the seasons and make a week of staying in a watching it over and over! Yeah, and whoever said the final episode isn't included is wrong. It called 'american girl in paris (part deux)'. Maybe they watched the alternate endings on disk 2 and though that was the finale disk. But they just show all the fake endings that they had to shoot to keep the secret of how it really ended. A must have!!

Don't Expect to See the Final Episode!

I love this series and was very excited when Season Six, Part II finally was available. However, the final episode is NOT included in this set, and only includes small vignettes of three alternative endings, without a complete story. I am very disappointed and do not understand why the final episode is being withheld like the holy grail!

    Best of the Best

When they write TV history...I Love Lucy, All in the Family, MTM, M*A*S*H...this is among the 10 best series ever -- and certainly among the top 5 in terms of defining and re-defining tv. But mostly, it is and always was smart, funny, witty, groundbreaking..and human. My god-daughter said after watching it on DVD, with her mom concerned about its appropriate-ness (that sex/prude american thing), zeroed in totally and got what it was all about - and what makes it so real for any of us who have long term friendships that always need care, tending and challenge us. She said 'I hope when I am 40, I have 3 friends as good as that.' And anyone who watched it for 6 seasons watched the characters grow, watched tv grow, and grew with it. Laughing ..and occasionally crying...all the way.

A Farewell to Sex and the City

I was a late bloomer when it came to this show. Other than the occassional episode, I didn't even have interest until after the show ended. Then I got my hands on the first season, and went out and bought the next and so on until now I am left hanging, waiting for the second half of the last season to adorn my shelf along side the others. This show had me hooked from episode one on. I sat at the edge of my chair waiting to see how the girls would handle the latest trial in their lives, what the taboo topic would be at lunch, and how they would all end up. Mostly, I waited to see Chris Noth listed as a guest star, because I absolutely love the evolution of Carrie and Big throughout the show. There is very little left unsaid in this series, and there is likely a piece of each of these women in every woman alive. If you have never seen it, start at the beginning. If you have, watch it again. This is television history in the making, and even a repeat of this is better than having it disappear forever.

    Sex Sells

Absolutely one of the best comedies ever HBO, will now sadly be realeasing it's final DVD, with Sex and the City Season 6 Part 2. For any that have ever seen either the show on television or through the DVD's know that it is such a great show. The last part of the 6th season follows Carrie's decision to spend her life with Alexander, Charlotte's attmepts at getting pregnant, Samantha's unexpected medical condition and Miranda's new life.... The show will be truly missed because it brought so much joy to my Sunday nights. Now if your not already watching, tune into Desperate Housewives which has the sizzle too!
