Overview

Young Indian-born Canadian resident Nandini (Karishma Kapoor) lives in Vancouver with her two doting uncles who would very much like to see her married off to a nice Indian man. Their dream comes true as Nandini weds her longtime friend Shekhar (Sanjay Kapoor), and the two live in marital bliss for a short time -- leading to the birth of their son Raja (Jai Gidwani). Things change unexpectedly when Shekhar catches a news story about violence erupting in his home province back in India, causing the once peaceful man to become angry and verbally abusive towards his wife. Without much explanation, Shekhar packs up his family and they all make the long trip back to India -- and Nandini quickly realizes her family's peril when a gang of ruffians attacks the bus with the intention of beating up Shekhar. They escape the assault after the gang is miraculously slaughtered and are then brought to Shekhar's parents' house -- an enormous estate and central command post for Shekhar's father Narsimha (Nana Patekar), who acts more or less as a regional warlord. The family is in the midst of a bloody war with a rival gang, a development Nandini would just as well leave to its participants as she tries to convince Shekhar to take them all back to Canada. However, tragedy strikes and Nandini is forced to take matters into her own hands when her father-in-law forbids her from taking Raja with her.
