Shallow Grave

The disc has two versions of the film, the original widescreen 1:85 and the full-screen standard format. For once, however, both formats are on the same side of the single-sided disc, so viewers can click back and forth to see just how much the pan-and-scan crops the image. The transfers are also very good, digitally mastered with Dolby Pro Logic 2.0 Audio. It sounds great for a small independent film. Don't look for too many extras here, as a theatrical trailer plus cast and crew bios make up all of the supplemental material on the disc. What the disc lacks in detail, it makes up for in a gripping story.

Editorial Reviews

All Movie Guide
1994's Shallow Grave was often viewed as Britain's answer to Pulp Fiction (also 1994), and it was a significant hit in the United Kingdom. Grave's energetic visual style and humorous treatment of the crime-thriller genre is certainly reminiscent of Quentin Tarantino's work, but the movie actually has more in common with the stylistic gymnastics of Coen brothers films: Blood Simple (1984) is an obvious comparison. It did moderately well on the U.S. art house circuit, paving the way for the greater success two years later of the exhilarating Trainspotting, from the same team of director Danny Boyle, producer Andrew Macdonald, and screenwriter John Hodge. Though relegated to a supporting role in Grave, Ewan McGregor since became one of the most popular Scottish actors of his generation.

    Great Entertainment!

I found this movie holding my interest continually, with twists and turns in a macabre and 'Poe-esque' way. I enormously loved the ending and immediately began recommending this movie to friends.
