Overview

Oceanic wise guys meet up with a small fish who has a big attitude in this computer-animated comedy. Don Lino voice of Robert De Niro is the patriarch of a family of sharks who lord over a bustling aquatic community based along a massive underwater reef. Don Lino has two sons, Frankie voice of Michael Imperioli and Lenny voice of Jack Black; Frankie is a carnivorous tough guy who takes after his father, but Lenny is, at heart, a kind soul who has earned the ire of his dad by becoming a vegetarian. One of Don Lino's cronies is Sykes voice of Martin Scorsese, who runs a "whale wash" where Oscar voice of Will Smith scrubs aquatic mammals for a living. Oscar is a small but ambitious fish who dreams of making something of himself, and when a dropped anchor accidentally kills Frankie, Oscar is suddenly if mistakenly celebrated as "the shark killer." Oscar's overnight fame attracts the attentions of Lola voice of Angelina Jolie, a slinky dragon fish who woos Oscar away from his steady date, Angie voice of Renée Zellweger; however, Oscar strikes up a friendship with Lenny and has to decide what to do when Don Lino and Sykes decides it's time to "take care" of the "different" shark. Also popping up in Shark Tale's all-star voice cast are Peter Falk, Vincent Pastore, Ziggy Marley, and Katie Couric.

Editorial Reviews

Barnes & Noble - Donald Liebenson
As gangster-film parodies go, Shark Tale is in a league of its own -- 20,000 leagues under the sea, that is. This Academy Award-nominated computer-animated feature reeled them in at the box office and, with its rich complement of special features, should make it an even bigger splash on DVD. The A-list voice cast gives a new meaning to "star fish." Will Smith is jive-talking Oscar, a tongue scrubber at the local Whale Wash who yearns to live among the "somebodies" at the top of the reef. Renée Zellweger costars as Angie, a co-worker with an unrequited crush on the clueless Oscar. Robert De Niro is Don Lino, a shark looking to turn over control of the reef to his sons, but one of them gives him a sinking feeling. Jack Black is Lenny (presumably a play on the fact that he sounds like Laverne & Shirley's Squiggy), a vegetarian with no taste for the family business. Lenny and Oscar form a surprising alliance when Oscar is mistaken for a shark slayer. Fame and fortune turn his head, but Oscar will learn that life at the top of the reef can be a shallow existence. The supporting voice cast is no less impressive, with Martin Scorsese as a puffer fish to whom Oscar is deep in debt and Angelina Jolie as a gold-digging fish fatale. The script is filled with movie references and puns -- there "shell-phones," a "prawnshop," and an anchorwoman named "Katie Current," perkily voiced by Katie Couric. Taking its cue from the Shrek DVDs, the Shark Tales disc contains an exclusive animated musical segment set on the dance floor of "Club Oscar." Shark Tale does not tell as primal a story as Finding Nemo, and many of the jokes will float over children's heads, but the film's high spirits never flounder.

    Great Concept, Terrible Execution

Dreamworks really screwed the pooch on this movie. In my opinion the fish looked ridiculous, and nothing in it made me laugh or even attempted to move me in any way. To me, this movie was very forgettable - in fact, I was GLAD to forget it. I was even tempted to wake up at 4 in the morning and deliver news papers on my bike just to earn my wasted money back. But I decided this movie took enough of my time already. Watch Finding Nemo.

    A Wonderful Fishy Tale!

Shark Tale was so much better than I expected. It’s a wonderful fishy tale that anyone will love! The story was fun to begin with and the characters were priceless! Famous Hollywood stars voiced the characters and that made the fish come to life more. I like that because you had a preconceived idea of what the characters would be like than just having regular actors that no one’s ever heard of. My favorite characters were the Jamaican jellyfish brothers, Bernie and Ernie. They were a laugh. But all the fish were. I also loved the spoofs throughout the movie. Some personal favorites were the ‘Kelpy Kremes” doughnuts and news reporter, “Katie Current.” If you liked Finding Nemo and spoofs from pop-culture today then Shark Tale is a must see!

    Way better than Finding Nemo

It¿s amazing how this underwater life is such a great reflection of our own. All the way down to the swim/don¿t swim red and green streetlights. This is a very funny entertaining movie that will make parents laugh and cry more than their kids!
