Couldn't disagree more with the first customer review. I've seen Master Blackmailer a few times over the years, and I am always deeply moved by it. The screenwriter did have to add to this story -- not just because of the longer, 2-hour length, but because the Conan Doyle story on which it is based is pretty thin; Conan Doyle tosses out a few tantalizing hints, but doesn't develop them. I thought what this did was make Holmes more believable, less the two-dimensional "great brain." And as usual, it is very well-acted. Jeremy Brett simply owns the role of Sherlock Holmes forevermore! Edward Hardwicke is the kind, insightful, loyal Dr. Watson, the best actor in this role. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. I'm a big fan of the earlier Sherlock Holmes series with Jeremy Brett, but this full length film is not up to the standards of the earlier, and shorter, episodes. This episode adds a significant amount to the story line that is not in the original story. I though the story was difficult to follow, and it was difficult to keep track of the characters. Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback.
