Sherlock is back and still strong. The tone of this season has changed slightly as Holmes approaches bigger challenges, more improbable fame, and more dangerous antagonists. Though not every adaptation is perfect, Moffat, Gatiss, and Thompson (who writes the incredible third episode, Reichenbach Falls) use wit and wisdom to update Holmes to the new century. Sometimes on the way they take a slightly satiric view of modern society, especially in regard to the press and even the government. This is the best new take on Sherlock Holmes to come out of recent years. Lovers of the canon will appreciate the constant nods to Doyle's timeless stories, but anyone can enjoy these tales. It's the best and most intelligent thing on tv in ages. The actors are painfully good at times. Cumberbatch is enigmatic and energetic as Holmes, his mind leaping along to the next deduction- but there are moments this season when his feelings may begin to catch up with his mind. Freeman as Watson is the perfect foil and their interplay is a delight. His quiet humor is a highlight of many scenes, but more importantly, his ability to emote, but in a controlled fashion that suits his soldier/doctor character is pure artistry. The supporting cast is also strong and enjoyable to watch- even when you don't like the characters their playing. Scott's Moriarty has taken some flack, but is truly original and truly terrifying. He comes full circle this season as the criminally insane genius who's a match for Sherlock in nearly every way. You'll be gasping for series three. I promise.

Season 2 of Sherlock's just as good as ever with three new episodes that adapt some of the more famous cases from the Holmes stories. Each episode gives its own clever, modernized take on the classic stories, and the writers succeeded in making the ones featured here as witty, entertaining, addictive, and overall good as the ones in the first season. The lead actors Benedict Cumberbatch (Sherlock) and Martin Freeman (John) outdid themselves this season, especially in the very final episode. The DVD itself is fine quality-wise and contains several minutes of footage per episode that was cut from the PBS broadcast due to time constraints. I wish there had been a few more extra features on them (commentary on the finale would have been wonderful), but as is, it's a good value for what you get. Sherlock seems to be a consistently great, and the end of this season promises that it might get better in the next, which makes the long wait between seasons even harder, but it's worth it.

By far, one of the best, if not THE best, television shows on television at the moment. This series is brilliantly acted, skillfully adapted, true to the original canon, and very enjoyable. Mr. Cumberbatch plays Sherlock very naturally and Mr. Freeman plays an intelligent, non-bumbling Watson. All six episodes are very witty and will leave you wondering, "How the heck is he  going to solve this one?" Modern amenities are used cleverly throughout the series and you actually learn a thing or two about British history and general criminology. The only fault is that the episodes, at 90 minutes each, start to drag after a bit (some more than others). The best episodes so far are "A Study in Pink,"  "The Great Game," "A Scandal in Belgravia," and "The Reichenbach Fall". I highly recommend this series to both young and old alike. Can't wait for series three!

The second series of this modern adaptation of Conan Doyle's classic stories is even better that the first. Tackling some of the best known and loved adventures of the original canon, this brilliant rendition will leave you shocked, breathless, and begging for more. Buy it now, and prepare to be SHERlocked! I BELIEVE IN SHERLOCK HOLMES!

Absolutely the best television program of all time

Funny, modern, yet remembers the classics in its construction.  Benedict Cumberbatch is the prettiest man to play a masterfully aloof Sherlock Holmes.
